Is It Possible To Fix An Xbox 360 Yourself?

If you own an Xbox 360 and are unfortunate enough to have experienced the red ring of death then you will probably be aware that the only options for fixing the problem are to buy a new console, ship the console back to Microsoft for repair or to fix it yourself. In this article I am going to cover whether it is actually possible to fix an Xbox 360 yourself.

It's a familiar story all over the world. Someone buys an Xbox 360 and after a while of gaming it suddenly stops working. A strange red ring of lights appears on the front of the console and its "game over" so to speak. The disgruntled gamer takes the console back to the store and is told that they can either have it repaired by Microsoft, which can be a time consuming procedure, have the console repaired by another third party at their own cost or purchase a new 360. However, according to some there is another option - home repair.

It sounds crazy doesn't it, repairing such a hi-tech piece of equipment with no special training or expensive tools, in fact, it sounds impossible. According to some repair guides that are available online it is possible to fix an Xbox 360 at home. All you need to know for repairing the console and navigating its internal components is usually written in text format, some of the better quality guides also feature video. From the ones that I have read no special tools are required, most people would have the necessary kit in their garage toolboxes.

Generally, Xbox 360 repair guides are easy to understand and follow and usually have very good results. As great as this may seem, the news is not all good. Any tampering on the console by an unauthorized person will result in a voiding of the warranty which means that Microsoft would no longer be willing to repair the console themselves. If you aren't confident in your technical skills and you don't mind the possibility of waiting a long time for your console to be returned then it would be better to get it repaired by the professionals. However, if you're willing to accept the possible consequences then repairing your Xbox 360 at home is a good option.

To conclude, I honestly feel that it is possible to fix an Xbox 360 that is suffering from the now infamous red lights problem, at home. Using any of a number of Xbox 360 home repair guides it should possible for the average person to safely diagnose and repair the problem without too much hassle. Of course there are downsides to this course of action but in my opinion I feel the benefits outweigh the doubts.

James Philipson has been a keen gamer for over 15 years and has also worked in the electronics industry as a technician and product developer. Over the years he has repaired thousands of electronic devices and has designed a number of new products. He became interested in the technical aspects of the Xbox 360 after a number of his friends' consoles experienced hardware problems. He has also created a website all about Xbox 360 home repair which is regularly updated.

Clothes For Hip Babies And Celebrity Baby Update

Remember those first photos of Brangelina's baby Maddox? He was wearing a Black Sabbath tee - quite the rock'n'roll infant. Kingston Stefani has been papped in some seriously urban babywear, ditto the Beckham trio.

To clad your baby in similarly funky attire eschew the high street and embrace the internet. To help you in your mission (and because we love cool kids' clothes) we've done some internet shuftying and come up with these veritable gems:

Nippaz with Attitude What's it about: threads so hip you'll feel upstaged by your baby
Our favourite: Notorious B.I.B. Prices: 9.99 for a (seriously cool) bib. Nice stuff: check out the Anarchy In The Nursery gift pack which includes Love and Hate mittens.

Kit n Kin at Freddy Says What's it about: ethically produced clothing featuring hip photography. Our favourite: 'Bling girl' motif (think Mr T chains). Prices: 15.50 for a vest. Nice stuff: we're loving the fab packaging with swing tag and recycled boxes.

Stardust Kids What's it about: personalised tees and sleepsuits that go "one louder"
Our favourite: 'I Love Uncle Ray More Than Uncle Sid'. Prices: 16.50. Nice stuff: they also sell kids' electric guitars (with built-in amp and speakers).

Twisted Twee What's it about: "Cheerfully sardonic" designs which your mother-in-law will absolutely not find funny. Our favourite: 'Half pint' T-shirt (with matching Pint T-shirt for Dad). Prices: 15 for the tee. Nice stuff: Everything. The whole site is a tribute to cool. Check out the Racing Pantlets and the embroidered Sleepy Head pillowcases.

Finally keep a look out for how these famous mums and dads will be cladding their babes this summer, with this quick celebrity pregnancy update. Congratulations to Halle Berry who gave birth to a longed-for daughter on Sunday 17 March. Halle and partner Gabriel Aubry settled for the unusual name Nahla Ariela Aubry. Nahla is Arabic in origin and means drop of water.

Congratulations also to la Lopez and Marc Anthony on the birth of their twins Max and Emme on February 22nd. Cue the meeja scrum with The People coughing up $6m for the first pictures.

Minnie Driver announced her pregnancy on Jay Leno's chat show but refuses to say who's the daddy...

What's happened to Myleene Klass? She's shed a whopping four stone since the birth of Ava in August but appears to have all but lost her legendary I'm A Celebrity curves.

Nicole Richie and Christina Aguilera both gave birth to their first babies on January 11 - Nicole to Harlow and Christina to Max. Both women are in stunning shape but so pneumatic are the bosoms of Ms Aguilera that we can't help suspecting a cheeky enhancement.

Lisa Marie Presley has just announced she's four and a half months pregnant with twins by fourth husband Michael Lockwood. She has two children model Riley Keough, 18, and Benjamin Storm, 15, from her marriage to ex-husband Danny Keough.

And finally congrats to Mike Oldfield on the birth of baby number seven but Mr Fertile, aged 55, is the first to admit how exhausting he's finding it!

Charlie Newman writes on behalf of Baby Says Hello http://www.babysayshello.com/ Announce your baby's birth with designer cards and a beautiful birth announcement http://www.babysayshello.com/baby-announcements/ webpage to send to all your friends.

Royalty Free Stock Footage - A New Reality in Video Production

In the past, producing a video meant producers had to hire an entire production team, including a cameraman, gaffer, grip, director, sound man, talent, and other crew members. Then, the team had to be transported to the actual location. If shooting in another country was necessary, the producer had to either fly the entire team there or hire a local team. Either way, he or she faces a logistical nightmare.

After booking your crew, you are at the mercy of bad weather, or the possibility of your talent not turning up. Even worse, what if your client disapproves of the final result of the shoot?

The world of video production is a very different battlefield now. With the advancement of fiber optics and broadband technology, producers are literary shopping their video footage on the Internet.

Instead of assembling a team and going to the location to achieve the desired shot, stock footage providers of all genres, from all over the world, have instead presented their own footage catalogued and nicely sorted on a website, allowing the producer to select, view, purchase and download instantly without ever leaving his or her desk.

We are talking about Royalty Free Stock Footage library. Royalty free licensing is an agreement that allows buyers unlimited use of the footage in a wide variety of ways. There are no restriction as far as the number of projects, release locations, and time frame; they are all covered under a one-time licensing fee. The only restriction is resale, in whole or in part.

Royalty Free Stock Footage are usually categorized by different genres, e.g. animals, landscapes, people, business, food, sports, time lapse, technology, medical, landmarks, background, elements, visual effects and 3D animation just to name a few. They can further be divided into sub-categories, e.g. 3D animation can be sub-categorized into spinning globes, waving flags, ocean and water etc.

While the availability of Royalty Free Stock Footage on the Internet is exploding, it is far from being saturated because every project has unique needs. For example, an outdoor shot can have different lighting moods and environmental settings, weather conditions, color tones, camera angle and camera movements. Likewise for 3D animation, each animator may create, texture and render each scene differently.

In the past, there were only a handful of stock footage companies around. They typically charged a few thousand dollars per clip, and those were not even royalty free. Your licensing cost had to depend on how many times you intended to use the footage, and in how many countries or regions your footage will be broadcast or distributed.

Now, thanks to technology advancement, more people can afford to own high quality video cameras, desktop editing systems and animation software. With increased broadband speed, people across the world can now deliver their own Royalty Free Stock Footage online, via niche websites that offer to consolidate individual video into a huge mega stock footage library. This online stock footage library is easily browsable, offers a secure payment system, and also includes a digital download delivery back-end. Some videographers and animators even set up their own online stores selling their personal video or animation footage. As a result, cost is lowered exponentially.

Typically, Royalty Free Stock Footage prices can range from 10 to 50 dollars per clip, depending on video resolution, uniqueness and technical demands, or if the footage includes identifiable people. They are sometimes sold as a collection of 20-30 clips for as low as a few hundred dollars. Compared to hiring a production team, these affordable rates provide video producers with great purchasing power and incredibly vast choices.

Of course, with great power comes great responsibility. With so many stock video contributors, there is great diversity in levels of professionalism and skill. Video producers must decide on the quality of the shot, based on information and previews provided by the website, reputation of the website to properly screen footage before accepting them, and the reputation of the stock footage providers.

Eddie Quah is the founder of MotionCow, a website dedicated to providing high-quality royalty free animation & visual effects for 2D & 3D artists and video editors. Globes 360 and Flags in Motion are animated stock footage library collections that focus on animated 3D spinning globes and waving flag respectively. They are all available at http://www.motioncow.com

Get Animated with Gizmo

Ever dreamt of being an animation star yourself? Apparently a company called Gizmoz has made this possible in a simple way through a proprietry technology that is able to manipulate your photos to form a series of animated expressions. You could then create a series of voice messages that sync with these expressions to send to your friends and family as a form of unique digital communication. As an example, imagine an animated Christmas greeting card with you on a Santa sleigh dressed in Santa's costume and shouting 'Merry Christmas'.

Normally speaking, this has to be accomplished in a 3D software. It can be pretty time-consuming, as a 3D model of the person has to be created. This is a process that involves manipulating a mesh of wire frames to eventually form a shape that resembles the subject matter. The second step involves 'texturing' the 3D model, where a series of manipulated digital photographs and textures are mapped onto the 3D model. This technique is similar to that used by game companies in the development of games that involve photorealistic computer players - usually involving existing soccer stars, wrestlers, basketball players, etc.

Next involves rigging the character - where the 3D character has to be given a skeleton so that it can be manipulated to move. The final step is the animation - where it involves manipulating the 3D model to create a series of body and facial movements.

Now before you are thinking of Angelina Jolie in Beowulf, I need to burst your bubble because Gizmoz's technology is nowhere as sophisticated. The above process of creating a 3D model to the final step of animating it is the ONLY way at the moment to create a Beowulf Angelina Jolie.

Gizmoz is a non-technical solution for people who want to deliver a fun personalized message with themselves as the stars and limitations are inevitable as with most other 'non-technical' solutions.

- It is limited to animating just expressions at this time. This means you can't expect Gizmoz to animate your body parts.

- The scenes are limited to what Gizmoz provides as template backdrops at the moment. You cannot customize beyond what Gizmoz provides.

To be honest, Gizmoz is nothing more than just plain old novelty to me - novelty that will wear out once better technology or more interesting substitutes get launched.

Saying this - Gizmoz - along with its investors, has taken a bold step to enable and empower individuals to express themselves in more realistic and imaginative ways and this effort should be applauded. With mobile giant DoCoMo and venture caps like Benchmark Capital and Columbia Capital believing in and funding Gizmoz, it would be interesting to see whether Gizmoz is an ace or a drop in the sea.

You can read a news release about Gizmoz teaming up with AOL to deliver their services here.

3D Models For Use in Geological Modeling

Geological modeling serves the purpose of creating 3D models of sections of the earths crust. These 3D models are unique as they can be created with different types of simulations of rocks, even the types of cells within the rocks. 3D models allow seismologists to predict certain events within the crust of the earth from shifting plates to eroding areas of the crust, or new growth within certain areas.

The grid surfaces within the programs are created with diverse polygons representing different structures and types of surfaces. These geological models are created using polygonal modeling using a meshed shell to create a surface that has been triangulated for the specific area.

3D geological modeling incorporates many other aspects of the field, including; diagenesis, structural geology, paleoclimatology and sedimentology.

Oil and Gas industries use these models to determine how the ground will react when the drills are inserted. These models are used to plan for any disturbances that may occur, as well as any weak points within the crust that could cause difficulty. If an accident were to occur, the 3D model allows the engineers to determine a plan of action for a variety of outcomes that may occur.

3D geological models are also used to complete valuable calculations for use in geostatistics. Many times, geologists are unable to calculate what is within the rock or within the crust at certain areas and therefore it is important to have software that can calculate these variables. This data is not available on regular grids and therefore must be estimated in the most effective manner.

Many popular software systems have been developed to create these 3D geologic 3D models; Roxar, Paradigm and Jewelsuite are only a sample of the programs available. These powerful software systems are able to display and calculate parameters required for many professionals involved in Earth Sciences.

Point and Shoot Digital Camera Tips and Tricks

In the growing world of digital photography new cameras with various high-tech features and settings appear on the market every day. For lovers of fast, easy photography it's a virtual paradise -- if you can manage to sift through the many choices and find a digital camera that's right for you.

Most people with even a mild interest in digital photography are aware that SLR cameras are the cream of the crop. Digital SLR is a shortened version of the term digital single lens reflex, which means utilization of a mirror positioned behind the cameras lens to direct light toward the viewfinder as you're composing a photo. When the shutter is released, the mirror moves out of the way allowing light from the lens to travel to the sensor and black out the viewfinder for a moment. The viewfinder employs a prism that turns the image around and bounces it onto the screen where it can be seen by the photographer.

SLR's allow the photographer better and tighter control over the images that are produced in ways that a point and shoot digital camera cannot. With an SLR one is able to control shutter speed, utilize a wide variety of different lenses, enjoy an overall faster performance, and have access to great flexibility.

Unfortunately, the main disadvantage of digital SLR cameras is their price tag. With costs ranging anywhere from $300 all the way up to $2000 dollars it makes sense to compare all kinds of digital cameras carefully before making a purchase.

Most regular, working class people can't afford to spend so much money on such a luxury item, which leaves point and shoot digital cameras. For people looking to capture everyday shots of their children, pets, or vacations, point and shoot digital photography is the perfect choice. It's inexpensive, user friendly, and provides instant gratification.

As for people who want to take beautiful, artistic, perhaps even magazine quality photos but can't afford an expensive SLR camera, there are many digital photography tips for a point and shoot camera that can help capture amazing images.

Here are a few points that will help budding photographers with macro photography, action shots, and photography portraits: read your camera manual from cover to cover; practice and understand focus lock and exposure lock (a feature of most all point and shoot digital cameras); use your flash to fill the darkest shadows with appropriate light; and for action shots, utilize the focus lock/exposure lock to pre-focus and then pan with the action as it passes before you.

You can find much more information about these methods in many online digital photography venues as well as inside your user manual. Even better, there are many inexpensive online digital photography classes in which to learn and a few that are offered free of charge.

For amateurs like me, point and shoot digital photography can yield gorgeous images with a little practice time, patience, and a strong desire to experiment. For more about amateur photography and creative writing check out Pictures, Words, and Ordinary Life.

Photography Jobs That You Can Get Into

It is not true that there is no money in photography. For those who are truly gifted, fame and fortune is easily achieved. In fact, there are a number of photographers who have reached the top of their field. There are actually a number of jobs that a photographer can get into. Pictures and visuals are important in most media and talented lens men are very much in demand in the market especially now with the age of multimedia.

Below are just some of the areas where photographers can get into and believe it, one can earn big bucks in each!

Magazine and newspaper photographer

Although it is more lucrative to do freelance photography, it is best for photographers who are ,just starting out to first establish contacts and build a name through magazines and newspapers. This is also the best place to earn experience in photography as you will encounter different kinds as well as interact with different kinds of people.

Newspaper photography is harder and more spontaneous compared to magazine photography, which is primarily shot in locations. When working for newspapers, one must be able to develop an eye for photos that will capture the readers attention as well as tell a story with its images.

Advertising agency

Another area where a photographer can get into is to work for an advertising agency where they will be conceptualizing ads for campaigns. One can start as a photographer and then gradually climb up through the ranks. One can even become an art director or if there is talent in conceptualizing, even a supervisor for overall operations.

Fashion shoots

A photographer can also work in fashion shoots. With much experience, they can even conceptualize a shoot and be its overall director. Most fashion houses hire photographers when coming up with a new collection for the season.

Event Photographer

Events like concerts and special occasions like weddings and debuts will require photographers who will document the event. Pictures are actually a large part of the preparation for the event and is almost as essential as the food.

Freelance photographer

Although it will be harder for photographers that are just new in the field to establish a career as a freelance photographer, there are a number of markets where they can contribute their work. For instance, most international agencies like UNICEF hire photographers to document their various projects in far-flung areas. There are also some who are hired to contribute generic photographs that will be used in newsletters and brochures.

What is 3D Animation?

Do not be fooled by the seemingly simplicity of this question.

I was actually quite tempted not to write this article because it's such a difficult topic to write on. It can be answered as complicated as you want it to be or as short as you desire. The thing is, I need to let clients know how complicated the process is, but not to let them walk away confused. Saying that, I will try my best to answer this question in the most concise but uncomplicated way possible.

In a nutshell, computer 3D animation refers to the work of creating moving pictures in a digital environment that is three-dimensional. Through the careful manipulation of objects (3D models) within the 3D software, we can then export picture sequences which will give the illusion of movement (animation) based on how we manipulate the objects.

What happens in animation is that motion is simulated in a way that the eyes tend to believe that actual motion has taken place while the fact is the perceived sense of motion is only because of the consecutive images that are passed through very fast.

This theory is inherent be it for 3D, 2D or stop motion animation.

In traditional 2D animation, pictures are hand-drawn and every one showing subtle changes from the previous. When played back sequentially, it creates the illusion of motion. In stop motion animation, real life models are moved slightly and filmed. Again, the pictures will create the illusion of motion when played back. In 3D animation, everything is done within the computer and exported from the computer.

The process of creating 3D animation can be sequentially divided into three phases: modeling - which describes the process of creating the 3D objects within a scene, layout and animation - which describes how objects are positioned and animated within a scene, and rendering - which describes the final output of the completed computer graphics. Through the combination of the above phases and a few other sub-phases, this completes the process of a 3D animation production.

There are many software in the market for creating 3D animation, ranging from the cheaper lower-end ones to the professional high-end versions. If you are curious to see how a 3D software works, you can download a free one called Blender. Just Google it and you will be able to find its official website.

This article was written by Aldric Chang - a creative businessman who is active in music composing and production, internet marketing, casual games production, animation production, cartoon production and character licensing. His 3d animation studio - Mediafreaks - is focused on producing high-end animation work for documentary producers, advertising houses and cartoon animated series - with projects ranging from the animation of dinosaurs to the visualization of natural disasters and something as chic as 3d jewelry animations or as intricate as 3d medical animation.

Video Game Design - Do You Have These In - Demand Skills?

If youre an avid video gamer and while sitting at home playing your favorite game, you think to yourself, I could do this better, video game design might be the perfect job for you someday. But there are some key skills youll need to have before you can enter the field and truly make an impact on the video game market. Here's a description of the most important ones.

Programming

Everything you see in a video game is boiled down to 0s and 1s, the basics of programmers everywhere. If you decide to aim for this job, youd better start early. Programming is the building block of any good video game design job. If youre great with numbers, better with details, and dont mind spending long hours staring at a computer screen looking for a missing line of code, programming is a great place for you in video game design.

Youll need to learn a combination of three to five different programming languages to be really successful in this job, so youd better be prepared for a lot of work. While C++ is the groundwork for any programming job, youll also be learning Java and Visual Basic to supplement it.

Most video game design uses a combination of whatever works in a given situation to get the job done. If youre in high school though, interested in a job in video game design and programming, you should try your hardest to take courses in or learn C++ as preparation.

Story Writing/Game Theory

For every good video game, theres someone (or many someones) whose job it is to write the story and develop the ideas for the game. You might think this sounds simple, having sat in your basement telling your friends how much better you could do at writing the ending for a particular game. But theres just as much schooling to get a job writing or brainstorming ideas in video game design as coding.

For writers, youd better get a decent degree in creative writing or English. Most video game design jobs require at least a Bachelors degree in English to apply for a story writing job. Second, they want experience, so start early, working on projects in school, taking specific courses in Game Theory and developing long story lines for use in video game design projects.

Your job will be writing dialogue, script and concepts for a massive world with hours of interaction. Youd better have a decent idea of how youre going to do that.

Computer Animation

The face of video game design, the job that everyone thinks of when they envision their future designing video games, is computer animation. First off, youll need to still learn the programming languages of your programming coworkers. This job requires a lot of different skills, many of which are programming languages. So C++ had better be on your resume along with Maya, 3DS Max, and a handful of other image rendering mega-software.

Video game design courses are perfect for the potential Computer Animator as well, as youll learn how to operate vast, high tech computers and machinery and utilize the newest software in doing so.

Computer Animation requires not only the technical expertise of a programmer, but the visual, artistic mastery of a story writer or sketch artist. This job requires the best of both worlds in the video game design industry.

There are plenty of jobs for all different skill levels in video game design. If youre capable of writing a good story, drawing a decent picture, or remembering vast strings of numbers, you can find a job in game design. Its all about where youll best fit in.

BONUS TIP: If you're just starting out and want to get your foot in the door in the video game design industry, you might want to become a video game tester first. Learn more by grabbing your FREE report for potential video game testers right now at: http://www.BeAGameTester.com

Age of 3D Animation

The art of creating and moving images with the use of computer is generally termed as 3D Animation. The era of animation can be dated back to the early nineties when the first 3D animation film "Toy Story" was created. With the passage of time there was tremendous transformation and many more movies were created.

The power and effectiveness of the animation became apparent when "Jurassic Park" hit the cinema screen in 1993 and was a wonder. The most powerful animal, "the dinosaur" was brought to life. It has certainly brought about a revolution and there is hardly any area where it is not playing a pivotal role. It has increased the popularity of computer animation. There are several reasons for its popularity; few important ones are spelled out in the paragraph as follow.

The crystal clear images can be revealed in a very short period of time and the impact created is just unimaginable. It is true to say that concepts and ideas which are not easy to be expressed in words or even through illustrations can not only be created easily but also analyzed from different perspectives. The dimensional feature of 3D Animation is where its true power lies and its ability to portray movement is exceptional. A huge amount of scientific data of movements is combined and presented in a simplistic manner. An advantaged tagged of this attribute of is that it creates a long lasting impact on the memory and the viewer tends to retain the image for a much longer time and that too with accuracy.

It is a fine communicating tool which offers more information at a faster rate presents complex concepts in a simplified manner and also helps turn an idea or even a hint into reality. Recreation of any event, expensive or dangerous to reproduce, is possible through this technology. Fine examples of this would be an air crash, demolition of buildings or creation of colonies. In today's age photo-realistic effects are possible by using virtual light sources from different angles with a fine blend of reflection, transparency and shadowing. One big area where it is brining about a huge and fast transformation is Architecture. The 3-dimensional models are more accurate and make it easier to see and study the possible relationship of the buildings with the environment.

In the age of animation there is no limit in so far as the software packages are concerned. You can find several packages in the market but the main and only problem that there are far too many and there re endless companies who have created their own packages on the pretext that the ones available don't suit their purpose. However, there are still a few standardized ones. The first and the most familiar one that comes to mind is 'Alias Maya'. It is software which allows you to create models, texture and animate, with them and lots more. Another package which stands a rival to 'Alias Maya' is '3DS max', it is a package with almost the same facilities that one would find in 'Alias Maya' its advantage is that it allows you to from 'Maya' to '3DS max' and vice-versa. A few other software packages are Cinema 4D, Bodyshop, Light ware 3D and many more.

The future of 3D Animation is far reaching there are going to be more and more, different areas where it is going to bring about a radical change. However, one area of challenge for it is a photorealistic animation of humans. As of now animals, fantasy characters, robots or cartoon like humans are shown but time is not far off when you will certainly see it progressing in these areas too.

Power Tool Selection - Toolbox Essentials to Do the Job Right

Many people believe in repairing as well as constructing minor things at home themselves, and it is also correct in a way, as doing it yourself saves you a lot of money and hassle. But at the same time, it is very important to understand the importance of the use of right power tools in the repairing and construction job. Using the wrong tool for a job might cost you more than expected. There is no doubt that using the right power tools for the right job will make your job much easier in addition to saving money and time for you.

The knowledge of how to fix things is very important before one starts the repairs. Not only that, one should also be sure that he or she is going to use the right tools for the job in hand. Here are some tips which can help one in choosing the right power tools:

A pair of pliers is a must in any tool box. One major reason for keeping a pair of pliers in the tool box is its multi utility and its handiness. It can be used for a variety of purposes like yanking, tightening of nuts, and getting a good grip on the targeted objects. It is because of its versatility that pliers are likely to be found in almost all the tool boxes in America. If you are involved in jobs like carpentry, plumbing or mechanics, it is always better to keep a pair of pliers handy as it is bound to make your life easier. It is always better to avoid the use of fingers which involve the use of pliers, as it is very important for one to understand that fingers are not designed to deliver force which is equal to the force applied by pliers. One must also realize that any such effort can also result in injury for oneself.

One of the most commonly used tools in any household is a hammer, the usefulness of which cannot be ignored. However, a pneumatic nail gun is one power tools which is much more useful than a hammer when it comes to hammering a nail. A pneumatic gun can manage to do the same job in half the time for you. It is mainly beneficial for an older house for putting up moldings.

There is no doubt that a hand saw should be your first choice for cutting a couple of 2x4s. But for the same job on a larger scale, it will be of very little help and that is the reason why a circular saw is a much better choice as it is much faster and also gives much straighter cuts.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Solar Power

Solar power is starting to go main stream. While this technology has been around for some time, many people are just starting to learn about alternative fuels such as these. They have been getting a lot of buzz because of high oil costs. The inability to afford rising fuel costs, have forced some individuals to think of new ways to run their homes. One way is to use energy from the sun. There are advantages and disadvantages of solar power. Let's discuss the advantages first.

There are many well noted benefits of sun energy. The ones that are most often discussed include cheaper energy costs, clean fuel and less dependence on oil.

In recent years, utility bills have gone through the roof in many parts of the world. Oil prices are skyrocketing and global supplies are diminishing. This trend is not going to cease worsening. Some people have been unable to pay their bills, while others have had to cut back drastically in other areas of their life affecting their lifestyles to a great measure. There have been many families who have had to go without heat simply because they could not come up with the money to pay their utility bills. Because the sun is a free fuel source, it is now possible for us to cut back on costs.

Sun energy is also good for the planet. It does not emit any harmful gases. It also makes people who use it less dependent on oil. Their monetary outlays are also not dependent on oil prices.

As noted earlier, there are advantages and disadvantages of solar power. We have already discussed the advantages, now let's discuss the disadvantages.

The biggest disadvantage of tapping on sunlight as a fuel source is the high cost of purchasing the panels and then having them installed. Thankfully, there are online guides that will give step-by-step instructions to build and install your own. For around $200 worth of materials, you can do everything yourself.

As you can see, there are both advantages and disadvantages of solar power. Sun power can replace oil based fuel. As a result, an individual can save money and do something good for the environment. The main disadvantage of using sunlight to provide energy is that it can be costly if you pay someone to install such a system for you. However, you can save a ton of money if you create and install the solar panels yourself.

Tired of high electric bills? Discover how thousands of families are using homemade solar power systems to power their homes!

Women just like to adore Leather Accessories. Accessories, that ranges from Bags, wallets to gloves. The most favorite being Bags as they just add an extra oomph factor to their looks, which women's just love. These bags add character to them, especially to the womens who are office goers, or going for a formal party or a hardcore disco party, Leather bags just give them that extra edge. Womens love them for every occasion. Well if women just adore, then men just can't resist having some of them, but men mostly have wallets, belts and gloves. Leather bags for women come in various colors, as women are really colorful, you name it they have it from black to sober colored collection for formal occasion or official places, to red hot to some really attractive colors as they just compliment them in parties. Leather wallets for women are not far away, they carry it for nights like watching an Opera with their fianc or boyfriend, in other words when they wear those really sexy gowns and carry a leather wallet, they really get some sparks blowing.

For men like me leather wallets doesn't make much of a style statement as it is always under my clothes it is important that my belt and wallet compliment each other, well you wouldn't like it that your wallet is some really weird when you are wearing a really hot leather blazer in front of your woman. So it is preferred that you choose right combination for every different occasion. Not long time back building designs & drawings was a pain in the neck by the hand using the conventional pen and paper on a drafting table.
This soon changed with the advent of the desktop computer, which gave rise to Computer Aided Design (CAD). For more information you can check this URL : http://www.bluentcad.com. Changes can be made in a jiffy without having to redo the whole drawing, which was earlier a tiresome process.

Now with CAD in picture, which is known as Computer-aided design, you need not fear about many of your drawings that are lost or destroyed, there is a booming service industry, which is at your doorstep to create computerized CAD drawings & designs in 2 Dimension & 3 Dimension of existing buildings.

CAD can be utilized for architectural as well as mechanical services. CAD is a hardware & software combination that caters to architects, engineers and consultants in the real estate & manufacturing industry globally.

CAD can be used for 2D drafting, 3D modeling, animations , interactive presentations, data managements, 2D - 3D CAD modeling & animation, architectural CAD, mechanical CAD, drafting and design, 2D 3D graphics, paper to CAD conversions, structural CAD drawings , 3D visualization.

In Mechanical CAD services it can be utilized for 2D Drafting, 3D modeling, 3D assembly, 2D - 3D sectional views.

The best way to have a good idea of CAD is by having a visit at this URL http://www.bluentcad.com). This one gives you some idea of the services which can be offered by CAD.

I hope the above information, which I have shared with you, is going to be resourceful.

Perspective of a 3D (Architectural) Rendering

What is 3D Rendering?

3D rendering or photo-real rendering is a nomenclature of producing an image based on three-dimensional data stored within a computer. 3D rendering can be designed to be abstract or as realistic as painting or photograph. Unlike photography, however, everything is imaginary and scenes need to be created. 3D Rendering requires a lot of work usually boundless amount of creative control over what may appear in the scene and how it is graphically presented to achieve good results. Before it could be done you first need to do the Modeling or Animating process. It is said to be "real time" because the computer makes the rendering without delay time, at each movement or modification of the 3D model.

The rendering and shading technology was first started during 1960's by venerable designer William Fetter who was attempting to devise a new process in order to maximize the efficiency of the layout inside an airplane cockpits. Over the years on the road of realism goes, 3D rendering was re-develop to increase complexity of the scene. It was called other names such as "Gouraud Shading Model", "Phong Rendering and later on "Ray Tracing" name by their developers until it was named "3D Rendering". I personally like the euphony of the word 3D rendering compared to the other names it was called.

The latest technology for photo realistic renderings wade beyond basic ray tracing, through the stimulation of technology, faster computers and a new birth of talents photo realistic 3D rendering has been ubiquitously used among artist.

Why 3D architectural rendering is a niche nowadays?

3D allows you to stimulate your creative horizons with movement, depth and animation. Over the years companies realize how to debouch the power of 3D visualization adds tremendous value to their presentations and other marketing campaigns, resulting to high volumes of sales for their products and services. It is important to heighten the awareness of what 3d can do for a business's growth. In 3d architectural you can easily presents your project/product in a turpitude or more appealing form then gives you an edge over old mediums. 3D photo real renderings play major role in real estate sales. Potential clients repose on the final product, so in order to sell you project its bes to present it realistically through 3d architectural rendering, animation or walkthroughs.

Qualities Of A Good 3D Architectural Rendering?

3D Rendering is a great way to display your products or ideas and deliver visual concepts ostentatiously to your potential clients so it's important to know how to achieve good rendering. Your ideas are translated in 3D to create Photo-Perfect 3D images. The 3D rendering artist must control all aspects of the scene such as Texture, Lighting, Transparency, Getting the right Angle, Detailed Model, and balance of Entourage in order to create a perfect result.

Texture - a method by which you add details, where you specify a color, a level of reflectivity and even a degree of bumpiness to scene. Textures allow 3D models to look significantly more detailed and realistic than they would otherwise. In order to achieve a higher level of realism make sure that the edges match closely to your model, have a larger number of smaller polygons and don't forget to to achieve good accuracy. Textures can also be repeated horizontally and/or vertically across a surface (with our without a degree of rotation), a technique used extensively for modeling surfaces such as brick walls, grass, roads, fences, etc. It can be applied in two ways: either the texture replaces whatever colour is already inherant to the polygon, or the texture colour is blended with the colour and surface properties of the polygon

Lighting - is an important aspect of scene setup in making it look realistic, this is the process where you create lightning sources to your environment, shade, shadows and refections. Lighting effects can contribute greatly to the mood and emotional response effected by a scene and can be a difficult art to master. The visualization of light in space, its effect on model cubature and scenery, is one of the great challenges in architectural rendering. The best bet to gain complete control over your lights is to experiment ,ignore standard practices and investigate exactly how your lighting instruments perform and react. A good lighting means everything in the scene is brightly lit so you can see every details.

Transparency - Transparency and light refraction within a transparent material are the key parameters in order to get a realistic rendering of a material like solid glass. In creating your scene photo realistic put simply, you can see shadows through your elements.

Getting the right Angle - having the right angle is one of the most important factor to consider, you have to make sure the important views are viewable in the scene and should not be distorted.

Detailed Models - Building models, is an extremely labor intensive process, even more so than our 3D models. It requires scrupulous attention to small details in order to achieve perfection. Basically a 3D model is a computer simulated wireframe representation of an object. In creating a good 3d models you need a powerful computer and processor to run most of the sofware. You can then output your 3D model by rendering it. A process that allows you to create a flat image of the model with texture and lighting added to the model to complete your work.

Balance of Entourage - in order to create a realistic rendering you need to populate your scene with people, cars, landscaping, etc. The trick is to find the right balance of elements, and avoid objects that are too unusual or detailed no matter how appealing may seem.

Last but not the least if your aiming for perfections, create a bit of imperfection to the edges of your scenes such as floor tile, glass, dirt on the street and walls to make it realistic.

What makes a Good Rendering?

* The true measure of good rendering is the ability to accurately and persuasively depicts the client's ideas.

* Good rendering should capture details.

*Each is met with a fresh look, based upon extensive experience with a diversity of media and building types, to create a singular expression for each project.

* Has the benefit of making clear and accurate presentations.

* It should be easy to understand, high impact and quick to inspire architectural renderings which can communicate about a proposed architectural design in the best possible manner.

* Evocative works evolves from an open client-artist dialogue which aims to create visage appearance that faithfully reflect designers' and developers' intentions and aspirations.

*Express the intangible emotional and spiritual qualities architecture can possess.

3D architectural rendering brings new designs to virtual life, allowing you to see everything in it's glory as though it was already built. A renewed interest in humanistic architecture has significantly enhanced the value of architectural rendering as a means of linking concept to reality.

1080p Projector - Which Home HD Projector is Right For My Home Theater?

Home theater used to be reserved for the rich and famous, but technology has evolved and prices have dropped to the point where true home theater is now achievable for the masses. In fact once you get a home audio system in place and add a 1080p projector you will never want to set foot in the local cinema again.

Today's 1080p projector is seeing continued technological improvements. If you think of projectors in terms of what you see projected on the wall at a business meeting or at your local church service, you are in for a pleasant surprise. A home HD projector properly connected to a high definition source such as HDTV or particularly blu-ray produces a stunning image.

So if you are ready to take your home theater to the next level consider checking out the following popular 1080p projectors:

1. Epson Home Cinema 1080UB - What sets the Epson apart from those in its class is the deep, dark blacks that it is able to achieve, thus the UB for Ultra Black. The 1080UB has an excellent sharp picture, vivid colors and has many flexible placement options due to its strong zoom and lens shift capabilities. The Epson may not be the most "film like" projector out there, but it is a natural choice for those who want to use the projector for viewing HD sports as well as for movies.

2. BenQ W5000 - For those who prefer a DLP projector over an LCD, the W5000 is certainly worthy of consideration. DLP projectors are known for smooth images, strong brightness levels and deep blacks. The W5000 does not disappoint in these areas. While technology has limited the problem over the years, it is still important to be aware of the potential for the rainbow effect that some people have with DLP technology.

3. Panasonic PT-AE2000 - If you are looking for an all around performer the AE2000 may be the choice for you. It offers an incredibly smooth picture with no visible pixel structure, even when viewed up close. It has a very film like image making it an ideal choice for movie lovers, but also is bright enough for HDTV and gaming and has flexible placement options making it suitable for many locations.

4. Mitsubishi HC5500 - This 1080p projector is another popular home HD projector capable of producing an excellent picture on the big screen. It has a sharp image, good color and above average brightness. Its expected lamp life is longer then the competition which figures into the overall value of the projector. Keep in mind that the HC5500 is a bit more limited then some in terms of placement due to a less powerful zoom and limited lens shift.

Each of these fine 1080p projectors would be a fine addition to your home theater. A home theater with one of these home HD projectors will be sure to amaze your family and friends. Just be prepared to be asked to host more movie nights and football parties because of your home theater setup.

For additional 1080p projectors as well as more in depth information on what to look for in a high definition projector check out the Family Home Theater Guide.

LCD Unwrapped - Exploring Key Characteristics of LCD TVs

With the express emergence of LCD technology, misconceptions have spread widely. Let us take a closer look at these misconceptions and find out the truth about this new and instantly loved technology.

LCD actually stands for Liquid Crystal Display. Some would say that the acronym actually stands for Liquid Crystal Diode; do not believe it. Those who claim this are actually confused about LCD and LED. LED is an acronym for Light Emitting Diode. They are very much different. The latter is actually the red light we see on clock radios; but today, LED are produced in many different colors. To clear things up, a diode is an electronic check regulator that prevents current from moving to an unfavorable direction. It is significantly not related with the transmittance or light projection for televisions.

One of the interesting things about LCD is its three well-defined types. First, we have the Flat Panel LCD which is somewhat similar to its major competitor, the Plasma TV. Second, we have the Rear Projection type of LCD which competes with the Digital Light Projection or DLP device. And third, we have the Front Projection LCD which transmits onto a screen and is extremely large in size measuring as big as 200 inches for a home cinema system. It can even be as big as 300 inches for bigger home theater rooms.

The sleekest and lightest form is the flat panel LCD. Probably this is the most popular and most loved of them all. The rear projection types are quite thicker than their flat panel sister. They are usually 15 to 19 inch in thickness range and weighs around 100 pounds. On the other hand, the front projecting types are small, lightweight like the flat panels, and extremely portable. There is actually a front projecting type model that is only 4 pounds in weight. However, you need an area to have the image projected. The leading brand that creates these three types of LCD is Toshiba.

The terms used to describe LCDs are liquid and crystal. These terminologies refer to the characteristic of the current applied. Depending on the electrical current sent, minuscule compelling molecules weave and bend. The twisting is measured in degree and the shape changes allows light to pass thus allowing an approximate of 1080 grey shades to display. This technology is actually similar to the digital watch or wall clock mechanism.

At present, the rear projection technology, which includes HDTVs, DLPs, LCDs, and LCos or Liquid Crystal or Silicon, has replaced the Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) models. These new forms of viewing entertainment have competed successfully in its equally interesting rival, which is the Plasma TV. The mentioned technologies offer superb picture quality in bigger screen sizes. Although there are still advantages in owning Plasma, the differences are unnoticeable. LCD technology is also being further developed so expect a more interesting package in the years to come.

HD Projectors to Create a Home Cinema

Do you want the best in home entertainment? There is truly only one way to go with today's technology, and that is with a home cinema of your own. As you read this article, you will discover more about home cinema and HD projectors, you will discover more about having your very own home theater!

We all have been in awe, when we first experienced cinema. A big screen, pristine sound, and an experience which seems much better than the small television at home! After going to the cinema a few times however, you find the quarks. You find someone with their head in the way, someone wants to pass, and the popcorn maybe on the floor!

Even though cinema is still great, and always will be, wouldn't it be nice to bring that experience into your own home? Realize that it is fully possible, and won't cost an arm and a leg. In fact, creating your own home theater is much easier today, than it has been in the past.

A few years ago, if you wanted a home theater of your own, you had to have access to a lot of money. You needed an expensive projector, and needed to renovate a room specially for home theater.

A look around today will show that HD projectors can be found for similar prices as a LCD HDTV! Considering that this is likely the most expensive part of owning a home cinema of your own, and then it makes it fully feasible for most homes.

There are a few things to consider before deciding to buy a HD projector. First, you want to decide on a room that will be your auditorium.

The room will need to be darkened, as light can severely affect the projected image. So, you don't want windows with Sunlight shinning on the screen.

You also will need to factor in the cost of a projector screen. Though not absolutely essential, it will bring out the best in a HD projector.

When buying a HD projector, the main consideration that you need to make, is whether you want the HD projector to be portable or to have permanent placement. HD projectors that are portable are great for other uses, such as in the office, in your business when communicating with staff or clients, and to take to a friends home, etc.

A point which is often overlooked is with the remote control. Make sure the remote control meets your needs. Does the configuration of the remote make it easy to use? Or do you need to get up and make physical contact with the projector to change settings, etc.

Another point to consider with HD projectors is the inputs. The inputs allow you to connect your PC to your HD projector, you DVD player, and your cable and satellite. As such, you want more inputs. The main point is to make sure they are compatible.

Create an amazing home cinema. Visit this link for more HD projectors tips and Sony Bravia projectors to find the latest and best projectors for your home.

Tips For Choosing a DTV Converter Box

Time is ticking away. There are only 224 days left until the end of most analog television broadcasts, and many of you still aren't ready.

"TV is about to become complicated," said Phillip Swan, author of TV dot COM: The Future of Interactive TV and founder of TVPredictions.com.

Consumer concerns over buying and installing converter boxes that will allow televisions to pick up the new digital signals are coming in force, said Swan and Joel Kelsey, policy analyst for Consumers Union.

"We're hearing a lot of confusion in the marketplace," Kelsey said.

Over 1 million of the $40 DTV coupons offered by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration have expired without being used, according to the NTIA website. (The coupons have a 90-day expiration date by law.) These coupons are available to help offset the cost of purchasing a DTV converter and are available to all households in the US.

Many consumers also are finding out (often too late) that many big box retailers only stock one or two of the coupon eligible boxes which leaves no room for comparison shopping. Lots of stores are also not carrying enough stock to satisfy consumer demand leaving folks out of luck once their coupons expire.

And some are finding they need an upgrade to their antenna once they buy the converter boxes to get some of the channels they had over the air before, Swan said.

Buying a DTV converter box
Here are a few good tips on how to choose a digital converter box:

Don't wait. You need to begin start shopping immediately after ordering your coupons, which take two to three weeks to be mailed. This will give you time to find the best model to meet your needs so you can be prepared once your coupons arrive. Be aware that coupons expire after 90 days. One million coupons have already expired without being redeemed.

Be aware of the features you need. If it's important to you to have a good program guide, a universal remote control or a button on your remote to choose whether you want your programming in full screen or letterbox, you must keep those features in mind when reading reviews or shopping.

Shopping online gives you more choices. "We ended up buying a lot online because it was the easiest way," CU's Kelsey said. Many big-box retailers have only one or two brands available at their stores, while online retailers will have many more brands and models so you can find the features you need at a price that fits your budget. This can also help save you money buy not burning gas to drive around the stores in your area shopping for boxes.

Get an Energy Star rated product. Digital converter boxes that have earned the Energy Star label by the Environmental Protection Agency consume no more than 8 watts of electricity in "on" mode and 1 in "sleep" mode. They also automatically power down after four hours or less of user inactivity. Look for the label to confirm that it has met program qualifications.

Install your converter box before upgrading your antenna. Don't buy a new antenna until you have determined whether you need it. If you live far from the broadcast tuners and are not receiving all of your desired channels with the converter box, consider getting a smart antenna, Sedmak advised. To see whether you may have poor reception, go to antennaweb.org and type in your ZIP code. The Web site provides a mapping program from the Consumer Electronics Association and the National Association of Broadcasters that locates the proper outdoor antenna to receive your local television broadcast channels. SummitSource.com also carries a HUGE selection of antennas so you can receive crystal clear HDTV broadcasts for free.

Best converter boxes
Consumer Reports recently rated the best TV converter box in a variety of areas, including the quality of the program guide, whether it has a universal remote control, whether it makes adding new channels easy and whether an AV cable is included. The models that ranked at the top for best picture quality, defined as those capable of images that come close to DVD quality are the following:

The Sansonic FT300A, which retails for $54.95 and the Philco TB 100HH9, which retails for $59.95. Both of these units are available at many online retailers for your convenience.

The Technology Behind the Coolest Flat Panel TVs Today

Its hard to deny the fact that plasma TVs offer the best quality picture ever since the tube is introduced to mankind!! The crystal-clear quality of Plasma TVs makes it popular with consumers even when the price was really quite ludicrous. But now, with the skyrocketing demand for Plasma TVs, Plasma TVs has become more affordable. Encouraged by the receptiveness of consumers, TV manufacturers relies on amazing technology to come up with super-thin Plasma TV designs that can be mounted right on the wall! This will definitely satisfy the need of ANY couch potato.

As a consumer, you probably are not too interested in the in-depth information about how Plasma TVs are created, designed and manufactured. But we think you might want to know a little bit more about the technology of how manufacturers manage to make Plasma TV so thin and crystal clear. True enough, the picture on the Plasma TV is probably only thing that matters to the kids when they watch their favorite program on the brand new Plasma TV in the living room, but dont you feel a tad curious about how come Plasma TVs can be so slender and yet provide such amazingly stunning visuals?

Within the thin casing of the Plasma TV, there are hundreds of thousands of tiny plasma-filled chambers. Depending on the quality of the Plasma TV, the number of plasma-filled chambers depends on the quality (and pricing of the Plasma TV). The higher the number of plasma-filled chambers there are, the better the quality, the higher the price. Makes sense?

And when you switch the Plasma TV on, electricity runs through and lights up the Plasma-filled chambers in the TV and the result is the picture that you see on your TV screen.

We all know that Plasma TVs give the most realistic pictures compared to the conventional TV. The picture from a Plasma TV is more focused. Sony-DSC-S730 Digital Camera

This is a simple and easy to use digital camera. It isn't expensive and takes good quality images. It is for point-and-shoot purpose and for people who want to use the digital technology at a low price. This is a entry-level model from Sony and does a good job as a digital camera in its class.

Design

The camera has a simple designing and the build is rectangular which has silver metal touch finishing. The camera weighs 140 grams, which is convenient enough to carry around easily. The size is a bit on the larger side to fit into pockets easily but nevertheless it can be carried around with ease. The LCD display is large and bright, the zoom button is on the backside top of the camera, followed by the control dial, menu button, self-timer and delete button.

Key Features

The camera has a 7.2 megapixel resolution and takes decent quality images. It works well on the medium zoom and even on no zoom, but the maximum zoom isn't that appealing but the images are bright. The red eye control does a fairly good job. The sharpness of the camera is commendable in this price bracket. The outdoor shots are clear and quiet crisp. Increasing the ISO (image sensitivity to light) to anything above 400 results in spotty images and this is the case with all the low priced digital cameras.

The camera is easy to operate and the functions are simple to use. The first image takes about half a second and it takes 5 images in almost 11 seconds. With usage of flash the first image takes around 1.50 seconds and 5 images in 15 seconds.

Cons

The camera performs well in outdoor conditions but the indoors are a bit disappointing. The flash of the camera is not powerful hence the images lack the brightness indoors. Increasing the ISO of the camera results in grainy images, which is the case with most entry-level digital cameras. The flash recovery is slow and this results in elongated time taken for images using the flash option. The design and look is very simple.

Conclusion

Overall this is a better digital camera than most in the same price bracket. There are no such evident flaws in this camera and it performs well. It is good for beginners and for people who just want to point-and-shoot. It isn't expensive and hence is a good buy.

Shopping For a Wall Mount Power Strip - More Power to Your Home With the Right Power Strip

In today's highly technological world, most homes in the city are dominated by plenty of appliances and electronics. For instance, the living room alone may contain a plasma TV, a DVD player, speakers and other gadgets to complete a home theater system. Another room in the house, say, the entertainment and games room, will probably have another TV and another set of speakers, plus a laptop and a Playstation or other video game console. With so many electrical appliances and gadgets in the house, one needs an organized way of connecting all these items to a power source. A wall mount power strip is one of the more popular items that can help you do this.

Safety in a strip

A wall mount power strip is a type of commercial-grade power strip. The other types of commercial-grade strips are those that can be mounted on the floor or attached to the workbench. If any of the rooms in your home contain more than a couple of items that need to be powered, then it's in your best interests to get yourself a wall mount power strip. Live wires scattered around the room or traipsing around the floor are very dangerous. If you have children running around your house, they might trip over these wires and cause a power failure. Or they might play with the wires and get electrocuted.

Strip buying tips

When buying any type of strip, be sure to buy one that has thermal sensors. Some people tend to abuse their power strips by overloading. Thermal sensors are features that can detect when you're starting to overload your power strip and it will promptly warn you so you can remove some of the wires. To make sure that you don't overload in the future, buy a power strip that has enough receptacles and extra ones if you are planning to add more electric devices to your home.

Important information

Complete information on the wall mount power strip is available at PickyGuide, the authority in free consumer advice. Access top-ranked, best-reviewed, and most competitively priced power strips in PickyGuide's recommended products section.

Go Green and Save Money With Your Energy Bill

The times they are a changin' and these days all of us want to reduce our carbon footprints and help save the earth. If you want to go green then there are many steps that you can take to help reduce your drain on the earth's resources and also help stop the drain on your bank balance. This article will show you how to go green and save money.

The easiest place to start saving money by going green is with your energy bills. Here are the top three things that you can do today that will not only save you money but also save energy:

1. In winter most of us have the thermostat cranked up as high as possible to keep our homes toasty warm, but you can be perfectly comfortable by lowering the temperature a few degrees. To find out what the perfect temperature is for you, each few days lower the temperature by just one degree to see how comfortable that is. Eventually you'll reach a temperature that is still comfortable but much lower than what you have it on now.

Same goes for summer. Keep adjusting the thermostat temperature up a degree every few days until you get to a level you are comfortable with.

2. Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL's) use a lot less energy than regular light bulbs. They might be a little bit higher priced to begin with but they will last you substantially longer than regular incandescent bulbs so over the long term work out cheaper. Plus the savings you'll make on your lighting bill is well worth the cost.

3. If you have gone to the hardware store lately to look for power strips, you might have seen these new 'smart' power strips. The work by shutting off the power to your appliances that are not in use. Many people leave big appliances on all the time (such as televisions on standby or the kettle switched on ready to boil water at the next flick of a button) however even though they are not being used they are still using power in this 'stand by' mode. Either switch them off yourself or buy a smart power strip to detect it for you to save money and energy.

There are many simple ways that you can go green and save money at the same time and they don't have to impact on your lifestyle too much. By doing your bit for the environment you'll not only feel good about yourself you'll be making a substantial difference in our earth and your bank balance.

Tips On How To Choose A Digital Camcorder

Not too long ago digital camcorders were very pricey, and so most bought an analog camcorder instead, but as always technology marches on and what was expensive yesterday can be very affordable today. So it is with digital camcorders. They have a lot of advantages that make them the clear choice if you can afford it, and here are some tips on how to choose a digital camcorder:

* It's a good idea not to buy any camcorder until you have had a chance to actually hold and use it yourself. This is true because miniDV camcorders are the most popular camcorders out there, and they are so small that they may actually be too tiny for some folks with large hands to even use. They typically only weigh about a pound, and they can fit easily into the palm of your hand. So just imagine how difficult it can be for some to fiddle with the tiny controls and dials on these petite camcorders.

* Be sure that you understand the zoom feature and how it works so you get what you need when you buy. There two kinds of zooms used on digital camcorders, the optical zoom and the digital zoom. An optical zoom refers to the lens capability itself and zooms in on a subject before it is digitally recorded. The digital zoom is done by taking the digital image that has been recorded and magnifying it. What you need to know about this is that the optical zoom does not result in any video degradation, but because the digital zoom is just magnifying the image that is already recorded, you can easily begin to see graininess in the video image. So try to rely on the optical zoom as much as possible for most shots, and choosing a camera that has at least a 10z optical zoom should work fine.

* It good to try to get a digital camcorder that can also take still shots too as this makes it so much more convenient to take both video and stills at the same event. Otherwise, you would have to carry along both a digital camera and a digital camcorder at the same time and switch back and forth. But getting a camcorder that allows you to take still digital shots eliminates this hassle. Often the camcorder will even have a built-in flash for low light camera situations too. Most often the digital pictures are saved onto a removable media card that you can use to upload them to your computer and print them out later on.

A digital camcorder opens up lots of possibilities as it allows you to even transfer the video to your computer and add text or music if you like. In essence, you can become your own little movie director with the high quality miniDV camcorders that are available today.

Best LCD TV - What Factors Should I Consider?

When it comes to size, resolution and picture quality, more and more people are opting for an LCD TV. These are currently the bestselling flat and high-definition televisions today, preferred by more consumers because they come in a wide variety of sizes, fits just about anywhere and are light enough to be mounted on the wall just like an ordinary picture frame. But with so many choices today, how do you find the best LCD TV? Here are some factors to consider, along with a few recommendations.

LCDs explained

LCD is short for liquid crystal display. This refers to the type of technology used on the screen of the TV to produce images. Thanks to backlighting, LCD TVs are better than older CRT models using fluorescent lights to produce a wider variety of colors. This is also the technology that allows even distribution of light across the whole screen, so overall brightness is consistent.

Does size matter in TV?

Apparently, it does. The best LCD TVs today are those that offer a good range of sizes - from desktop computer-sized 15" units to more home theater-friendly 70". Bigger units even come with tuners and surround sound speakers to better enhance the home theater experience.

Picture quality

Admittedly, even the best LCD TVs have visual performance issues they have to contend with. Some of their main drawbacks are the low refresh rate (leading to relatively slower response time), low contrast ratio compared to plasma TVs and blurring during fast action sequences.

However, LCD TV manufacturers are promising better performance in the next generation LCD TVs. That means, we can expect significantly higher response rates and tweaks that will resolve blurs during high-speed car chases and fight scenes in future models.

How to choose the best LCD TV

Here are some factors to consider:

Size

Probably the major consideration you need to keep in mind is the LCD TV's size. It has to fit the area where it will be placed and must be big enough to optimize your viewing experience and small enough not to overwhelm. Remember that the best LCD TVs are built for maximum viewing pleasure at a distance. So if you have a 40" set, you should at have enough space in the room to allow you to sit at a distance of 5 feet or so. The larger the TV, the farther the area you should view it from.

Resolution

This is another gauge in which the best LCD TVs are measured. Resolution refers to the overall picture quality of the TV. The higher the number, the sharper and clearer the image. High definition formats generally range from about 720p to 1080p.

However, if budget is a major concern, there's no need to pay extra for higher resolution. Even 720p LCDs can already produce excellent images and reliable picture quality. The difference between a 720 and a 1080 is almost negligible especially if you have access to shows with HD programming.

Brand

In some cases, brand loyalty matters when deciding which LCD TV is best. If you must consider the manufacturer, look for top names such as Samsung, Sony, LG, Philips or Vizio. These brands have some of the best models in the industry, with several premium offers available.

Price

If you stick by a particular brand and consider a larger-sized LCD TV, some of the best you'll find can set you back at least $700 for a decent-sized 32". Bigger sizes starting at 37" can cost from about $1,500 to $3,000. However, you could still shave off a few hundred dollars by opting for lesser-known brands that are typically sold by distributors at stores like Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy. You'll generally get the same picture quality at about 15% to 20% less.

What is a 7.1 Sound System - Should You Have One?

One of the first pieces of tech specs you'll run into when building your own dream home theater is "5.1" , "7.1" and to a lesser extent "6.1" speaker systems. Typically a home theater system and most movie house systems consisted of a center channel, a pair of left and right speakers, side or surround speakers, and a subwoofer. Each set of speakers in a 5.1 setup have a different function. The center channel provides you with a clear dialogue channel. Optimum surround sound home theater reproduction places heavy demands on the center channel speaker, which in many respects is the main speaker in the system and often handles 50% or more of the program material. It is no place to compromise and settle for second best. Normally this speaker is placed either on top or just below the screen, and even behind the screen in some in some projector systems with an acoustically transparent screen.

The left and right speakers carry the bulk of the sound and music. Most effects sounds, music and score and a good portion of the background sounds. These are typically your largest and most expensive speaker pair. They have the greatest tonal range, from mid-low to high range sounds are handled by this pair of speakers.

The surround speaker open up the sound stage, allowing you to experience those effects that put you in the action of the movie, cars approaching you from the side during a car chase, spaceships whizzing be around you, or the menacing sounds of the jungle wildlife in the Serengeti.

The subwoofer brings in the bass, creating those chest-pounding explosions and bringing to like thud and crash. Positioning of the subwoofer does not really matter all that much as the human ear does not accurately position low frequency sounds. The subwoofer is the ".1" in "5.1", meaning 5 speakers and one subwoofer.

This was your typical setup and all was well, but along came 7.1 and to a lesser extent 6.1 adding one or two speaker to in the rear of the listening area. This addition will add a more enveloping sound and open up the soundstage even further, allowing for the illusion of being part of the film. Some enthusiasts do not feel that the rear speakers are necessary at all. In fact all DVDs have no more than a 5.1 soundtrack. Some newer high end receivers can translate a 5.1 signal into a 7.1 signal such as Dolby Pro-Logic II. This is done by using mathematical algorithms create a separate 6th audio channel that is then pumped to one or two rear speakers (if they are present).

At this point either 6.1 or 7.1 was nice, especially if you had a couple of extra speakers you could throw in the back. Matching timbre with the rest of the speakers is not very important when adding rear speakers, so really any decent loudspeakers would do. Then along came Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, these formats would hold much more data and made it possible to add 7 discrete channels (each channel having a separate and distinct signal), plus a low frequency effects channel LFE (subwoofer). At this point fewer than about 20% of Blu-Ray releases have a 7.1 audio format, studios are aware that most people still have 5.1 systems, but this trend is changing and would speculate that in just a few years 7.1 will be the standard audio format for movie releases and home theaters.

I'm Roger Sandoval, a Home Theater enthusiast, who finally built his own dream home theater, but I'm always upgrading and checking out new equipment. I love to share my advice to how to buy home theater equipment and where and how to buy plasma TVs and LCD TVs, I invite you read my LCD and Best Plasma TV reviews as well as reviews and all home theater equipment.

Coffee Clubs Bring You the Best in Gourmet Coffee and Tea

Belonging to a coffee club is a great joy for lovers of fine coffee. The concept of a coffee club is very recent, but is already revolutionizing the coffee-drinking world. The best coffee in Chicago, St. Louis, San Francisco (and need we mention Seattle) is available with club memberships in these and many other American cities. Joining a coffee club allows you to save lots of money and get in on special deals which are only available to members. Every month you receive a coffee shipment delivered to your door with a surprise selection of great coffees and teas as you choose. This is the best way to introduce yourself and your friends and relations to new coffees, letting you sample different types and discover new brews that you really love. This is a great boon to people who live in rural areas far from the madding crowd but also far from the nearest coffee shop. It's very convenient not having to run down to the shop for your coffee in the morning and assures you a steady supply.

Coffee clubs are springing up all over the country, and the different clubs offer different choices so it isn't hard to find a club that fits your tastes and budget. Many of the coffee clubs now offer a coffee of the month option, so in addition to being able to specify your favorite grinds and types you can allow the coffee company to bring you a surprise every month! Some clubs let you specify the flavor you prefer, or you can just go with the flow and let the company make its favorite picks. Usually coffee of the month samples consist of a pound of coffee each time, but you can vary the amount at your discretion. There are coffee clubs which publish newsletters containing interesting articles about the featured coffee of the month, and also recipes and useful hints about making coffee, removing coffee stains, etc. Coffee clubs usually offer a members only discount, thus passing onto the consumer the savings the company enjoys by being able to buy gourmet coffee and tea in bulk with a guaranteed clientele. If some special offering or sale comes up the club members hear about it first through the club newsletter; and coffee clubs often offer gift books of coffee recipes or coffee mugs as gifts.

Coffee clubs usually offer flexible terms of membership. Often you can join for periods of three, six, or twelve months' memberships; and can specify whether you want ground beans or whole beans; which type of grind you prefer; and whether you want regular or flavored, decaf or caffeinated. There are endless choices available which cater to each individual taste and budget. Membership in a coffee club makes a terrific gift for the coffee lover on your gift list, whether for Christmas, birthday, thank you, or especially as a business gift, which includes a gift card in your name.

For some of the very best coffee in Chicago the place to go is the Intelligentsia coffee company, which offers a wide selection of gourmet coffee and tea. Besides their retail shop on Broadway, Intelligentsia offers one of the most popular coffee of the month programs in the country.
