Tips For Choosing a DTV Converter Box

Time is ticking away. There are only 224 days left until the end of most analog television broadcasts, and many of you still aren't ready.

"TV is about to become complicated," said Phillip Swan, author of TV dot COM: The Future of Interactive TV and founder of TVPredictions.com.

Consumer concerns over buying and installing converter boxes that will allow televisions to pick up the new digital signals are coming in force, said Swan and Joel Kelsey, policy analyst for Consumers Union.

"We're hearing a lot of confusion in the marketplace," Kelsey said.

Over 1 million of the $40 DTV coupons offered by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration have expired without being used, according to the NTIA website. (The coupons have a 90-day expiration date by law.) These coupons are available to help offset the cost of purchasing a DTV converter and are available to all households in the US.

Many consumers also are finding out (often too late) that many big box retailers only stock one or two of the coupon eligible boxes which leaves no room for comparison shopping. Lots of stores are also not carrying enough stock to satisfy consumer demand leaving folks out of luck once their coupons expire.

And some are finding they need an upgrade to their antenna once they buy the converter boxes to get some of the channels they had over the air before, Swan said.

Buying a DTV converter box
Here are a few good tips on how to choose a digital converter box:

Don't wait. You need to begin start shopping immediately after ordering your coupons, which take two to three weeks to be mailed. This will give you time to find the best model to meet your needs so you can be prepared once your coupons arrive. Be aware that coupons expire after 90 days. One million coupons have already expired without being redeemed.

Be aware of the features you need. If it's important to you to have a good program guide, a universal remote control or a button on your remote to choose whether you want your programming in full screen or letterbox, you must keep those features in mind when reading reviews or shopping.

Shopping online gives you more choices. "We ended up buying a lot online because it was the easiest way," CU's Kelsey said. Many big-box retailers have only one or two brands available at their stores, while online retailers will have many more brands and models so you can find the features you need at a price that fits your budget. This can also help save you money buy not burning gas to drive around the stores in your area shopping for boxes.

Get an Energy Star rated product. Digital converter boxes that have earned the Energy Star label by the Environmental Protection Agency consume no more than 8 watts of electricity in "on" mode and 1 in "sleep" mode. They also automatically power down after four hours or less of user inactivity. Look for the label to confirm that it has met program qualifications.

Install your converter box before upgrading your antenna. Don't buy a new antenna until you have determined whether you need it. If you live far from the broadcast tuners and are not receiving all of your desired channels with the converter box, consider getting a smart antenna, Sedmak advised. To see whether you may have poor reception, go to antennaweb.org and type in your ZIP code. The Web site provides a mapping program from the Consumer Electronics Association and the National Association of Broadcasters that locates the proper outdoor antenna to receive your local television broadcast channels. SummitSource.com also carries a HUGE selection of antennas so you can receive crystal clear HDTV broadcasts for free.

Best converter boxes
Consumer Reports recently rated the best TV converter box in a variety of areas, including the quality of the program guide, whether it has a universal remote control, whether it makes adding new channels easy and whether an AV cable is included. The models that ranked at the top for best picture quality, defined as those capable of images that come close to DVD quality are the following:

The Sansonic FT300A, which retails for $54.95 and the Philco TB 100HH9, which retails for $59.95. Both of these units are available at many online retailers for your convenience.

The Technology Behind the Coolest Flat Panel TVs Today

Its hard to deny the fact that plasma TVs offer the best quality picture ever since the tube is introduced to mankind!! The crystal-clear quality of Plasma TVs makes it popular with consumers even when the price was really quite ludicrous. But now, with the skyrocketing demand for Plasma TVs, Plasma TVs has become more affordable. Encouraged by the receptiveness of consumers, TV manufacturers relies on amazing technology to come up with super-thin Plasma TV designs that can be mounted right on the wall! This will definitely satisfy the need of ANY couch potato.

As a consumer, you probably are not too interested in the in-depth information about how Plasma TVs are created, designed and manufactured. But we think you might want to know a little bit more about the technology of how manufacturers manage to make Plasma TV so thin and crystal clear. True enough, the picture on the Plasma TV is probably only thing that matters to the kids when they watch their favorite program on the brand new Plasma TV in the living room, but dont you feel a tad curious about how come Plasma TVs can be so slender and yet provide such amazingly stunning visuals?

Within the thin casing of the Plasma TV, there are hundreds of thousands of tiny plasma-filled chambers. Depending on the quality of the Plasma TV, the number of plasma-filled chambers depends on the quality (and pricing of the Plasma TV). The higher the number of plasma-filled chambers there are, the better the quality, the higher the price. Makes sense?

And when you switch the Plasma TV on, electricity runs through and lights up the Plasma-filled chambers in the TV and the result is the picture that you see on your TV screen.

We all know that Plasma TVs give the most realistic pictures compared to the conventional TV. The picture from a Plasma TV is more focused. Plasma TV manufacturers and designers design Plasma TVs in such a way that it is so thin that you can literally place it anywhere! They are sometimes no more than 4 thick. And because Plasma TVs can display up to 68 BILLION colors, you can get nothing less than a realistic picture on the screen!! On top of that, some Plasma TVs can be mounted on the wall saving you space in your living room.

Sony-DSC-S730 Digital Camera

This is a simple and easy to use digital camera. It isn't expensive and takes good quality images. It is for point-and-shoot purpose and for people who want to use the digital technology at a low price. This is a entry-level model from Sony and does a good job as a digital camera in its class.

Design

The camera has a simple designing and the build is rectangular which has silver metal touch finishing. The camera weighs 140 grams, which is convenient enough to carry around easily. The size is a bit on the larger side to fit into pockets easily but nevertheless it can be carried around with ease. The LCD display is large and bright, the zoom button is on the backside top of the camera, followed by the control dial, menu button, self-timer and delete button.

Key Features

The camera has a 7.2 megapixel resolution and takes decent quality images. It works well on the medium zoom and even on no zoom, but the maximum zoom isn't that appealing but the images are bright. The red eye control does a fairly good job. The sharpness of the camera is commendable in this price bracket. The outdoor shots are clear and quiet crisp. Increasing the ISO (image sensitivity to light) to anything above 400 results in spotty images and this is the case with all the low priced digital cameras.

The camera is easy to operate and the functions are simple to use. The first image takes about half a second and it takes 5 images in almost 11 seconds. With usage of flash the first image takes around 1.50 seconds and 5 images in 15 seconds.

Cons

The camera performs well in outdoor conditions but the indoors are a bit disappointing. The flash of the camera is not powerful hence the images lack the brightness indoors. Increasing the ISO of the camera results in grainy images, which is the case with most entry-level digital cameras. The flash recovery is slow and this results in elongated time taken for images using the flash option. The design and look is very simple.

Conclusion

Overall this is a better digital camera than most in the same price bracket. There are no such evident flaws in this camera and it performs well. It is good for beginners and for people who just want to point-and-shoot. It isn't expensive and hence is a good buy.

Shopping For a Wall Mount Power Strip - More Power to Your Home With the Right Power Strip

In today's highly technological world, most homes in the city are dominated by plenty of appliances and electronics. For instance, the living room alone may contain a plasma TV, a DVD player, speakers and other gadgets to complete a home theater system. Another room in the house, say, the entertainment and games room, will probably have another TV and another set of speakers, plus a laptop and a Playstation or other video game console. With so many electrical appliances and gadgets in the house, one needs an organized way of connecting all these items to a power source. A wall mount power strip is one of the more popular items that can help you do this.

Safety in a strip

A wall mount power strip is a type of commercial-grade power strip. The other types of commercial-grade strips are those that can be mounted on the floor or attached to the workbench. If any of the rooms in your home contain more than a couple of items that need to be powered, then it's in your best interests to get yourself a wall mount power strip. Live wires scattered around the room or traipsing around the floor are very dangerous. If you have children running around your house, they might trip over these wires and cause a power failure. Or they might play with the wires and get electrocuted.

Strip buying tips

When buying any type of strip, be sure to buy one that has thermal sensors. Some people tend to abuse their power strips by overloading. Thermal sensors are features that can detect when you're starting to overload your power strip and it will promptly warn you so you can remove some of the wires. To make sure that you don't overload in the future, buy a power strip that has enough receptacles and extra ones if you are planning to add more electric devices to your home.

Important information

Complete information on the wall mount power strip is available at PickyGuide, the authority in free consumer advice. Access top-ranked, best-reviewed, and most competitively priced power strips in PickyGuide's recommended products section.

Go Green and Save Money With Your Energy Bill

The times they are a changin' and these days all of us want to reduce our carbon footprints and help save the earth. If you want to go green then there are many steps that you can take to help reduce your drain on the earth's resources and also help stop the drain on your bank balance. This article will show you how to go green and save money.

The easiest place to start saving money by going green is with your energy bills. Here are the top three things that you can do today that will not only save you money but also save energy:

1. In winter most of us have the thermostat cranked up as high as possible to keep our homes toasty warm, but you can be perfectly comfortable by lowering the temperature a few degrees. To find out what the perfect temperature is for you, each few days lower the temperature by just one degree to see how comfortable that is. Eventually you'll reach a temperature that is still comfortable but much lower than what you have it on now.

Same goes for summer. Keep adjusting the thermostat temperature up a degree every few days until you get to a level you are comfortable with.

2. Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL's) use a lot less energy than regular light bulbs. They might be a little bit higher priced to begin with but they will last you substantially longer than regular incandescent bulbs so over the long term work out cheaper. Plus the savings you'll make on your lighting bill is well worth the cost.

3. If you have gone to the hardware store lately to look for power strips, you might have seen these new 'smart' power strips. The work by shutting off the power to your appliances that are not in use. Many people leave big appliances on all the time (such as televisions on standby or the kettle switched on ready to boil water at the next flick of a button) however even though they are not being used they are still using power in this 'stand by' mode. Either switch them off yourself or buy a smart power strip to detect it for you to save money and energy.

There are many simple ways that you can go green and save money at the same time and they don't have to impact on your lifestyle too much. By doing your bit for the environment you'll not only feel good about yourself you'll be making a substantial difference in our earth and your bank balance.

Tips On How To Choose A Digital Camcorder

Not too long ago digital camcorders were very pricey, and so most bought an analog camcorder instead, but as always technology marches on and what was expensive yesterday can be very affordable today. So it is with digital camcorders. They have a lot of advantages that make them the clear choice if you can afford it, and here are some tips on how to choose a digital camcorder:

* It's a good idea not to buy any camcorder until you have had a chance to actually hold and use it yourself. This is true because miniDV camcorders are the most popular camcorders out there, and they are so small that they may actually be too tiny for some folks with large hands to even use. They typically only weigh about a pound, and they can fit easily into the palm of your hand. So just imagine how difficult it can be for some to fiddle with the tiny controls and dials on these petite camcorders.

* Be sure that you understand the zoom feature and how it works so you get what you need when you buy. There two kinds of zooms used on digital camcorders, the optical zoom and the digital zoom. An optical zoom refers to the lens capability itself and zooms in on a subject before it is digitally recorded. The digital zoom is done by taking the digital image that has been recorded and magnifying it. What you need to know about this is that the optical zoom does not result in any video degradation, but because the digital zoom is just magnifying the image that is already recorded, you can easily begin to see graininess in the video image. So try to rely on the optical zoom as much as possible for most shots, and choosing a camera that has at least a 10z optical zoom should work fine.

* It good to try to get a digital camcorder that can also take still shots too as this makes it so much more convenient to take both video and stills at the same event. Otherwise, you would have to carry along both a digital camera and a digital camcorder at the same time and switch back and forth. But getting a camcorder that allows you to take still digital shots eliminates this hassle. Often the camcorder will even have a built-in flash for low light camera situations too. Most often the digital pictures are saved onto a removable media card that you can use to upload them to your computer and print them out later on.

A digital camcorder opens up lots of possibilities as it allows you to even transfer the video to your computer and add text or music if you like. In essence, you can become your own little movie director with the high quality miniDV camcorders that are available today.

Best LCD TV - What Factors Should I Consider?

When it comes to size, resolution and picture quality, more and more people are opting for an LCD TV. These are currently the bestselling flat and high-definition televisions today, preferred by more consumers because they come in a wide variety of sizes, fits just about anywhere and are light enough to be mounted on the wall just like an ordinary picture frame. But with so many choices today, how do you find the best LCD TV? Here are some factors to consider, along with a few recommendations.

LCDs explained

LCD is short for liquid crystal display. This refers to the type of technology used on the screen of the TV to produce images. Thanks to backlighting, LCD TVs are better than older CRT models using fluorescent lights to produce a wider variety of colors. This is also the technology that allows even distribution of light across the whole screen, so overall brightness is consistent.

Does size matter in TV?

Apparently, it does. The best LCD TVs today are those that offer a good range of sizes - from desktop computer-sized 15" units to more home theater-friendly 70". Bigger units even come with tuners and surround sound speakers to better enhance the home theater experience.

Picture quality

Admittedly, even the best LCD TVs have visual performance issues they have to contend with. Some of their main drawbacks are the low refresh rate (leading to relatively slower response time), low contrast ratio compared to plasma TVs and blurring during fast action sequences.

However, LCD TV manufacturers are promising better performance in the next generation LCD TVs. That means, we can expect significantly higher response rates and tweaks that will resolve blurs during high-speed car chases and fight scenes in future models.

How to choose the best LCD TV

Here are some factors to consider:

Size

Probably the major consideration you need to keep in mind is the LCD TV's size. It has to fit the area where it will be placed and must be big enough to optimize your viewing experience and small enough not to overwhelm. Remember that the best LCD TVs are built for maximum viewing pleasure at a distance. So if you have a 40" set, you should at have enough space in the room to allow you to sit at a distance of 5 feet or so. The larger the TV, the farther the area you should view it from.

Resolution

This is another gauge in which the best LCD TVs are measured. Resolution refers to the overall picture quality of the TV. The higher the number, the sharper and clearer the image. High definition formats generally range from about 720p to 1080p.

However, if budget is a major concern, there's no need to pay extra for higher resolution. Even 720p LCDs can already produce excellent images and reliable picture quality. The difference between a 720 and a 1080 is almost negligible especially if you have access to shows with HD programming.

Brand

In some cases, brand loyalty matters when deciding which LCD TV is best. If you must consider the manufacturer, look for top names such as Samsung, Sony, LG, Philips or Vizio. These brands have some of the best models in the industry, with several premium offers available.

Price

If you stick by a particular brand and consider a larger-sized LCD TV, some of the best you'll find can set you back at least $700 for a decent-sized 32". Bigger sizes starting at 37" can cost from about $1,500 to $3,000. However, you could still shave off a few hundred dollars by opting for lesser-known brands that are typically sold by distributors at stores like Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy. You'll generally get the same picture quality at about 15% to 20% less.

What is a 7.1 Sound System - Should You Have One?

One of the first pieces of tech specs you'll run into when building your own dream home theater is "5.1" , "7.1" and to a lesser extent "6.1" speaker systems. Typically a home theater system and most movie house systems consisted of a center channel, a pair of left and right speakers, side or surround speakers, and a subwoofer. Each set of speakers in a 5.1 setup have a different function. The center channel provides you with a clear dialogue channel. Optimum surround sound home theater reproduction places heavy demands on the center channel speaker, which in many respects is the main speaker in the system and often handles 50% or more of the program material. It is no place to compromise and settle for second best. Normally this speaker is placed either on top or just below the screen, and even behind the screen in some in some projector systems with an acoustically transparent screen.

The left and right speakers carry the bulk of the sound and music. Most effects sounds, music and score and a good portion of the background sounds. These are typically your largest and most expensive speaker pair. They have the greatest tonal range, from mid-low to high range sounds are handled by this pair of speakers.

The surround speaker open up the sound stage, allowing you to experience those effects that put you in the action of the movie, cars approaching you from the side during a car chase, spaceships whizzing be around you, or the menacing sounds of the jungle wildlife in the Serengeti.

The subwoofer brings in the bass, creating those chest-pounding explosions and bringing to like thud and crash. Positioning of the subwoofer does not really matter all that much as the human ear does not accurately position low frequency sounds. The subwoofer is the ".1" in "5.1", meaning 5 speakers and one subwoofer.

This was your typical setup and all was well, but along came 7.1 and to a lesser extent 6.1 adding one or two speaker to in the rear of the listening area. This addition will add a more enveloping sound and open up the soundstage even further, allowing for the illusion of being part of the film. Some enthusiasts do not feel that the rear speakers are necessary at all. In fact all DVDs have no more than a 5.1 soundtrack. Some newer high end receivers can translate a 5.1 signal into a 7.1 signal such as Dolby Pro-Logic II. This is done by using mathematical algorithms create a separate 6th audio channel that is then pumped to one or two rear speakers (if they are present).

At this point either 6.1 or 7.1 was nice, especially if you had a couple of extra speakers you could throw in the back. Matching timbre with the rest of the speakers is not very important when adding rear speakers, so really any decent loudspeakers would do. Then along came Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, these formats would hold much more data and made it possible to add 7 discrete channels (each channel having a separate and distinct signal), plus a low frequency effects channel LFE (subwoofer). At this point fewer than about 20% of Blu-Ray releases have a 7.1 audio format, studios are aware that most people still have 5.1 systems, but this trend is changing and would speculate that in just a few years 7.1 will be the standard audio format for movie releases and home theaters.

I'm Roger Sandoval, a Home Theater enthusiast, who finally built his own dream home theater, but I'm always upgrading and checking out new equipment. I love to share my advice to how to buy home theater equipment and where and how to buy plasma TVs and LCD TVs, I invite you read my LCD and Best Plasma TV reviews as well as reviews and all home theater equipment.

Coffee Clubs Bring You the Best in Gourmet Coffee and Tea

Belonging to a coffee club is a great joy for lovers of fine coffee. The concept of a coffee club is very recent, but is already revolutionizing the coffee-drinking world. The best coffee in Chicago, St. Louis, San Francisco (and need we mention Seattle) is available with club memberships in these and many other American cities. Joining a coffee club allows you to save lots of money and get in on special deals which are only available to members. Every month you receive a coffee shipment delivered to your door with a surprise selection of great coffees and teas as you choose. This is the best way to introduce yourself and your friends and relations to new coffees, letting you sample different types and discover new brews that you really love. This is a great boon to people who live in rural areas far from the madding crowd but also far from the nearest coffee shop. It's very convenient not having to run down to the shop for your coffee in the morning and assures you a steady supply.

Coffee clubs are springing up all over the country, and the different clubs offer different choices so it isn't hard to find a club that fits your tastes and budget. Many of the coffee clubs now offer a coffee of the month option, so in addition to being able to specify your favorite grinds and types you can allow the coffee company to bring you a surprise every month! Some clubs let you specify the flavor you prefer, or you can just go with the flow and let the company make its favorite picks. Usually coffee of the month samples consist of a pound of coffee each time, but you can vary the amount at your discretion. There are coffee clubs which publish newsletters containing interesting articles about the featured coffee of the month, and also recipes and useful hints about making coffee, removing coffee stains, etc. Coffee clubs usually offer a members only discount, thus passing onto the consumer the savings the company enjoys by being able to buy gourmet coffee and tea in bulk with a guaranteed clientele. If some special offering or sale comes up the club members hear about it first through the club newsletter; and coffee clubs often offer gift books of coffee recipes or coffee mugs as gifts.

Coffee clubs usually offer flexible terms of membership. Often you can join for periods of three, six, or twelve months' memberships; and can specify whether you want ground beans or whole beans; which type of grind you prefer; and whether you want regular or flavored, decaf or caffeinated. There are endless choices available which cater to each individual taste and budget. Membership in a coffee club makes a terrific gift for the coffee lover on your gift list, whether for Christmas, birthday, thank you, or especially as a business gift, which includes a gift card in your name.

For some of the very best coffee in Chicago the place to go is the Intelligentsia coffee company, which offers a wide selection of gourmet coffee and tea. Besides their retail shop on Broadway, Intelligentsia offers one of the most popular coffee of the month programs in the country.

Nintendo Wii "Fishing Master" Review

Ever since I was a little girl I have loved to go sit out by a pond and fish. It never really matter to me if I caught anything or not, it was just fun trying. I've tried different video games to replicate the real act of fishing and found them rather boring and quite unrealistic. However, the Nintendo Wii has a version of "Fishing Master" that really caught my attention. As video games go, this is as close one can get to fishing without having to deal with worms, hooks, and tangled line.

There are really two types of formats when playing fishing video games;

1) an arcade type of game that can be fun, but lacks reality and

2) realistic fishing modes that can make you feel as though you are actually catching fish.

The Nintendo Wii has combined the two to make this video game experience something fun for whatever type of mode you wish to play in. The characters themselves are cartoon in creation; however the act of using a fishing rod makes the video game more realistic for the player.

There is only one mode of play in this video game however there is a setting for multiplayer's in the Battle mode. In the single player campaign mode the player advances through the stages by catching different types of fish. The video game offers tournaments and challenges throughout the game play and players earn points which they use to buy items such as bait and other specialty items.

Players stand facing the water and as the player moves from end of the beach to the other, they will be able to catch different fish from those points. The fundamental aspects of the video game are very easy to learn right from the start.

The Nintendo Wii's version of "Fishing Masters" is what I believe the most entertaining and realistic approach to video game fishing; it is fun, challenging and creative. It is as close as you might get to the real thing without having to fight bugs, baiting hooks, and smelling like you've rolled in dead fish. The only problem there is that I can see is that you'll have to buy fresh fish from the market if you want to have your catch as dinner.

CRT or cathode ray tube types have been buried and the flat screen now governs the world of entertainment.

Let's take a review of the Plasma TV. It was first introduced during 1964. Because of the improvements in manufacturing and television processing, Plasma TV have been made. The image created in such a TV is from the combination of three colors within every pixel. The signal is transmitted by the charge of electrodes from the two glass panels. This brings about the state change of plasma gas inside making blue, green, and red phosphors blaze. This creates light and thus creating images on the screen.

There are actually several types of Plasma televisions. We have the extended or enhanced definition (ED) and the high definition (HD). Enhanced definition panels have full HD 1081 interlaced content and a 500 progressive output resolution. If you are seriously considering using your Plasma TV for HD devices or with computers, better choose the HD Plasma model. The ED model would be perfectly suitable for regular viewing through satellite, DVD or cable. Note that an ED model in good quality can outperform a not so good HD Plasma so better be careful in choosing a reliable manufacturer.

How about an LCD? How does it work? Basically, LCD technology possesses the Twisted Nematic (T.M.) system. It is simply the reaction of twisted liquid crystals to electric currents. The electrical power causes the crystalline structure to untwist at different degrees depending on the voltage. These twisted nematic crystals are placed in between polarized glasses and so the untwisting allows different light amounts to pass through.

If you are eyeing on an LCD TV, consider the size. Some experts say that if you want a smaller than 32 inch television, you should go for the LCD. But if you want larger screens than that, better purchase a Plasma. Panasonic now has 3000:1 contrast ratio and the other television brands mostly have a 1000:1 ratio. Both Plasma and LCDs have been further developed and so if they may have differences, those would matter only a little. But then again, the choice belongs to the user. So identify what you need, and start from there. Good luck and may you eventually find the best television to be the source of your home entertainment.

Satellite TV For Apartments

Everyday I see more and more satellite dishes on balconies and patio areas. You can't really blame folks for wanting more channels for less money. Just drive through any apartment or condominium community and you will see these ugly satellite dishes plastered all over the place. Too bad satellite dishes can't also serve as small windmills that provide alternative energy...(hmmm, you never know). Independently installed satellite dishes in apartments pose a huge liability issue and are of course, very unsightly.

So What's A Property Owner To Do?
According to the FCC's ruling on "Over-The-Air-Reception-Devices" (OTARD), owners cannot restrict a resident from installing a satellite dish (up to one meter in diameter) within the confines of their leased or dwelling space.

The solution to this "balcony dish problem" lies in the properties ability to offer residents a premium satellite TV service, at a competitive rate WITHOUT having to mount dishes throughout the apartment community. For this reason, "shared-satellite-dish-systems" have begun to spring up in the multifamily market in a huge way.

A shared satellite system allows all apartment units to have access to satellite TV programming packages without the need for a satellite dish or southwest exposure. That's right! No need to turn away potential residents because you have no available units facing southwest.

There are companies that are focused on providing these solutions, and more and more owners are beginning to seek them out. They are not your "run-of-the-mill" satellite tv retailers (putting dishes on balconies). They are more like small private cable companies. And in most cases, property owners don't need to spend a dime to have a system installed.

Differences Between Organic Coffee Beans and Regular Coffee

A lot of pesticides are used in regular coffee production, which is one of the main differences between traditional coffee and organic green coffee beans. Normally, coffee plants are treated with pesticides before harvest to safeguard against weeds and insects. After being harvested, traditional green coffee beans are treated with even more chemicals.

In the past, coffee was grown in natural environments underneath shade trees where the plants could grow without human interference. Today, large-scale coffee growers have abandoned this method and instead chop down trees and plant coffee in large fields. This change in methodology has brought forth the need for pesticides and fertilizers to ensure favorable yields. The chemicals with which coffee plants are treated seep into the ground and affect soil quality as well as the quality of the coffee beans.

Organic coffee beans are grown in a completely different way. Instead of destroying shade trees to make room for larger growing plots, organic coffee farmers utilize these trees so that the coffee plants may grow in a protected area. This, and the use of birds to control insects, eliminates the need for harmful chemicals and is known as shade tree farming. The results are higher quality, more flavorful coffee beans.

The USDA has a set of standards for organic foods and in order for a product to be certified as being organic, it must meet the USDA's regulations. Organic coffee growers must not use synthetic pesticides and must rotate their crops every several years to preserve soil nutrients.

Even though organic coffee is usually grown on a smaller scale than traditional coffee and its farmers must adhere to strict USDA guidelines, the cost of organic coffee is actually not astonishingly higher than the price of regular coffee. Keep this in mind when you are choosing a new brand of coffee to try. The easiest way to buy organic green coffee beans is online, where a variety of roasts and flavors may be found.

So You're Looking For Athletic Shoes Eh?

When looking for athletic shoes, you should first consider what type of athlete you are. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What kind of sports do I like to play?

  • How often do I engage in them?

  • How much am I willing to spend?

It's only natural to choose a shoe made for your sport. For instance, you wouldn't buy a pair of basketball shoes for tennis; just like you wouldn't buy a pair of running shoes for basketball...unless you wanted to severely damage your ankle. Some people don't care about what shoe they get, as long as it looks athletic and as long as the price is right, they're sold. That's all fair, but if you engage in a certain sport about 2-3 times a week you may be risking serious injury with the wrong shoe. Well here we are going to teach you the right way of choosing athletic shoes.

Athletic shoes are not all the same, for instance: basketball shoes are usually more boot shaped for ankle support. This is because the sport of basketball requires a lot of jumping and quick changes of direction. With a low cut shoe you will definitely twist or tweak your ankle. Running shoes are made for running. They have a low cut, and they have a lot less padding than basketball shoes. Some running shoes even have a thinner sole, such as the shoe the world record holder Usain Bolt wore during his 2008 Olympics in Beijing. But this doesn't mean you should dive into the Pumas right away, try out different brands and see what fits your foot the best. Nike, New Balance, and Adidas are also other great brands and they all have a slightly different fit.

Running shoes are made light so you don't have to carry extra weight. This is crucial if you are a long distance runner, for competition or recreation. Let's assume that you can shave off 1/4 lb off of a shoe. 1/4 lb doesn't seem like much, but it adds up with every step. So assume you are jogging at about 125 strides per minute, that's 31.25lbs per minute. Multiply that number by a 45 minute run and you are carrying over 1400lbs of additional weight. Fatigue makes cowards of us all. So if you are a runner, stick to running shoes.

If you enjoy playing all kinds of sports at different times and are not willing to buy a shoe for every sport then the solution for you is a cross-trainer. Cross trainers are shoes that are morphed into one; it's pretty much a cross between a basketball, tennis and a running shoe. Hence the name: cross trainers. You are pretty much set for any sport with this shoe; it has a strong sole for all kinds of terrain, a medium to high cut for ankle support, and very decent weight. But again, if you are predominantly a runner, then go with a running shoe.

All of these athletic shoes tend to go around the $100-200 range, where most basketball shoes are at the lower end of the spectrum, and the running shoes being in the upper range. This price can be cut down with coupons and deals found on sites such as Soletopia. Tennis shoes can be bought for under $100 due to their plain simplistic look, but they also tend to last for a very short time. Think of the athletic shoe as an investment, if you play often, you will save money in the long run.

Download Free PSP Games

Wondering how you can download free PSP games?

You are just a few mouse clicks away.

To start with, you will need a PSP that is version 1.5 or higher. A computer, either Windows or Mac, is also needed along with a high speed USB 2.0 cable. The final requirement is, of course, your own games and music files.

If you've decided to download free PSP games from a an illegal site, beware.

However, you can also download free PSP games, music and movie files from just about any source including CDs, DVDs or even your computer.

To build your PSP library, it's a good idea to buy a bigger memory stick, because the stock one is only 32MB. A 512MB or bigger memory stick is a must if you really want to download free PSP games.

Step 1: Prepare the files for a transfer

Select the movies, PSP games or music files that you want to have on your PSP and then transfer them to your PC. You can do this after ripping them from a CD or a DVD or downloading them from a site.

Step 2: Connect the PSP to the computer

Here you need to connect your PSP and your PC. This can be done by turning on the PSP and subsequently putting it in the USB connect mode. A high speed USB cable is required to connect the computer and the PSP, and without one you will have no luck trying to download free psp games.

Click Start on the computer and go to My Computer. The name of the PSP would vary from computers and its appearance would also depend on how many drives are already associated with the computer.

On a Mac the PSP may show up as a Removable Drive and at times it may show up as Drive E.

Step 3: Finally, It's Time To Download Free PSP Games!

Next you have to navigate all the folders that are within the PSP and download free PSP games to the right folder. Find the Video, Games or Music folders, then drag and drop the files where they belong.

Step 4: Play, Watch, Listen and Enjoy

Remove the USB cable and take it out of "USB CONNECT" mode after you've put the files onto your PSP. The only thing left is to enjoy! You can also find your video, music and games folders in the Memory Stick.

So, now that you know how to download free PSP games from your PC into your PSP, start downloading and enjoying unlimited entertainment.

Appreciating Silver Or Depreciating Doo-Dads - The Choice is Yours

What if instead of buying a $50 depreciating doo-dad, you bought $50 of appreciating Silver? Doo-Dads come in all shapes and sizes; clothing, food items, refreshments, home decor, automobiles, toys, sporting goods, electronics, kids toys... the list goes on and on... Many people spend $100's per month on depreciating doo-dads. That's $100's in potential Silver Asset buying power. I can guarantee you; Silver will not end up in a garage sale two years from now selling for pennies on the dollar.

Here's the point. We all spend money on depreciating doo-dads. We enjoy our doo- dads, that stuff we acquire through life that we could probably live without. Doo-dads fulfill a temporal need. They make us feel warm and fuzzy for a short time. When the warm and fuzzy feeling leaves, we go out and buy another doo-dad and go through the same cycle again.

I have heard this objection to buying Silver, "I don't want to purchase Silver right now, the price is too high. What if the price goes down?" Humor me for a moment and let's put this into perspective. What if on an emotional whim, you purchased a $50 pair of shoes. (this goes for guys and gals) You purchase the pair of shoes to wear once in while. They sit in your closet for two years. One day while rummaging through your closet, you see your shoes. Your taste has changed so you throw them in the garage sale pile. What's more valuable, a $50 extra pair of shoes that you wore a few times over two years or some American Eagle Silver Coins. Even if the Silver depreciated by 70%, it would still be worth 4 times the value of shoes you only wore a few times. Silver will always be worth more!

Wendy's Coupons - Where to Find the Best Coupons to Save You Money at Wendy's

Wendy's coupons are very highly sought today, as this is one of the most popular fast food chains around, and of course, everybody wants to save some money when eating there. Can you get coupons of them online, and if so, how much does it really save you?

To the first question, yes, there are many sites on the internet that have coupons for them so finding them isn't hard at all. One of the most popular offers available is signing up for their newsletter and getting one dollar towards your next order.

Not a huge savings, obviously, but it's something, and the best part is, now you are on their newsletter and will receive coupons in your email all the time that you can just print out and use.

Nobody likes to be bombarded with ads, of course, so I'd recommend you have a separate email address where you can just sign up for Wendy's coupons offers, and then check it once a week or so, and get all the coupons you need. This is a tremendous way for staying up to date on all the new coupons they are offering, and if you aren't on their list, you should be.

You can also get these coupons on the back of sporting and concert tickets quite frequently, so if you do happen to go to an event and get a ticket, make sure you keep it so that you can redeem it on your next trip to Wendi's. Another place to check, as with just about any other coupon you want, is eBay.

Here you can find quite a few Wendy's coupons you can buy, and one of the more popular ones you might get is for free jr frostys. A typical deal is to buy thirty of these coupons for eight or nine bucks, giving you a net savings of around twenty bucks, certainly worth it if you go to Wendy's quite a bit.

However, keep in mind that these are only valid for around three months, but even if you don't use all thirty, even using more than ten of these Wendy's coupons will make it worth it and save you some money.

Want killer secrets on getting the best Wendy's Coupons? Check out onlinecoupontips.com, and learn how to save big money regardless at all kinds of different stores with the right coupons.

Hearts of Iron II - Master of World War Two Strategy

Created by Paradox Interactive, developers of Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron II is the second installment in one of the best World War Two strategy game series ever. Hearts of Iron II puts you in control of any country that existed between 1936 and 1947. This means that while you can take control of the world playing as the United States or Germany, you can also participate in smaller conflicts as Hungary, Argentina, or Siam. Allowing you to manage every aspect of your countries war machine, Hearts of Iron II is simply one of the best strategy games out there.

The game centers on one main campaign on a global map, which allows you to control any country, and let's you jump into the world in 1936, 1939, 1941, and 1944, so you can start in the time period of your choice. However in Hearts of Iron II, also included are sixteen limited scenarios depicting major campaigns, ranging from the invasion of Poland and D-Day, to alternate history scenarios like the invasion of Japan and a war between Brazil and Argentina.

Hearts of Iron II allows total control over your country of choice. You must balance resources by importing and trading on the global market. You must use your industrial base not only on weapons of war, but also supplies and common goods to keep your populace happy. You can choose which side you will ally with, or create your own alliance of nations to take over the world. Realism is also prevalent, with events occurring almost constantly, informing you of new political and economic advances, as well as declarations of war and annexations. While most are historical events, your actions influence what will happen and when, and games never play the same way twice.

Combat itself is simplified, but you must be prepared in order to win over your enemies. Researching technology will give you newer units, but you must use some of your industrial power to upgrade them, and keep a constant supply of reinforcements. Adding brigades to your divisions, the primary unit size, will give them better firepower, but you must have the correct doctrine in order to use them correctly. Units dig in and use terrain, aircraft bombard enemy positions and dogfight in the air, and ships must struggle to keep supply lanes open. Using combined arms is the most effective strategy in this very complex and in-depth game.

Overall, Hearts of Iron II is one of my personal favorites and the best game of its type out there. Nearly anything you want to do can be done, and replay is almost unlimited. I am sure that I have not done the game justice in this short review, but hopefully I have given you the idea of just how excellent this game is. While it can take a while to learn everything and get used to the gameplay, Hearts of Iron II is certainly worth it.

A Guide to High Capacity Tankless Heaters

Home ownership comes with reoccurring costs, like appliances that wear out, usually at an inconvenient time. The up side can be that a new replacement comes with improvements, including energy savings. Like the new high capacity tankless hot water tank that is going to replace your old tank heater.

There are more and more articles appearing in the press and magazines about this new way of heating hot water. Some of what you've heard may be misleading or confusing and could be costly if you if don't know what makes a tankless hot water heater different from its competitors.

Look for sources, like forums, where people get to get to share home improvement experiences. Use these sources to gather your own information rather than accept information from "knowledgeable sources" as right for you. Another place to do this is manufacturer's sites, which have useful tables, charts and maps for helping customers make the right decision.

One of the things you will see, if you check the Energy Star ratings, is that they vary all the way from 60 percent for tank type water heaters to 99 percent efficiency for electric tankless heaters. Let's see how this works out for a high capacity heater.

If you have above average needs for hot water, you should probably look to natural gas to power your high capacity tankless heater. This is where you will find the capacity to take on 2 or 3 showers at one time. It is helpful to make changes like this when building a new home or renovating, but compact tankless heaters are suitable for most any situation. They are unobtrusive in just about any environment.

This level of performance, of course, requires a high gas flow rate to heat so much hot water. Look to sellers of tankless water heaters to post gallons per minute and Btu figures with each model, which you can use to do a cost of capacity assessment. For example: 7gpm of hot water will require about 3.3 cubic feet of gas per minute. Use your utility bill to get an idea of your annual cost. Keep in mind that winter weather can reduce this output by half.

Whether you choose gas or electric, keep in mind that they both come with special needs. Because of their on-demand design they have high-energy requirements. For a gas unit this could mean going to a 1-inch gas pipe if it's a long distance to the heater or if there are other gas appliances sharing this line. There is also the need for special venting.

There are savings from switching over from a tank to tankless water heater. If you are replacing a 12-15 old model, you will probably see an improvement in efficiency rating of 40 percent or more. To find the true value of a new tankless heater you need factor in the initial cost of the unit plus the estimated energy cost over the life of the heater. Along with savings, look to tankless technology to bring you many enjoyable years of continuous hot water.

Refer to this site for detailed how to install a tankless water heater instructions.

Residential Solar Panels As Essential Home Features

Are you tired of having to use up as much as 30% of your income to cover electricity bills alone? Are you looking to cut costs on home heating? If so, the next logical question would be, does your home have residential solar panels? If you have not heard of these yet, then I tell you, you are missing out on huge savings and peace of mind. Most new homeowners today specifically look for residential solar panels when they go shopping for a new home. Moreover, today's new breed of houses do not disappoint - they come with residential solar panels and more. This is because these days, the emphasis is now on environmental friendliness and energy efficiency rather than on a building's structural qualities solely.

Still, who says you can't have solar power just because your house isn't new? You can make residential solar panels yourself; all you need is the help of a comprehensive guide such as Michael Harvey's 'Earth4Energy' manual. You know a guide does what it promises to do when its language is one even non-experts can follow. Such is the case with 'Earth4Energy'. It shows the techie and the non-techie alike precisely how to create a power generator that directly converts solar and wind energy into electricity. This homemade version of a home solar system can potentially generate enough power to sustain your needs, maybe even generate some extra. Consumers who have created their own energy were able to generate enough electricity of power their home appliances. So can you. After all, what they can do with their solar power system, you can easily do better with panels you make yourself.

Now essential features of every home, home solar system are investments. Your own power-generating system pays for itself in time and even generates savings in the long run. This is definitely a smart way to ease the impact of gas and energy price increases on your budget. At the same time, it is a huge step toward energy independence.
