Is It Possible To Fix An Xbox 360 Yourself?

If you own an Xbox 360 and are unfortunate enough to have experienced the red ring of death then you will probably be aware that the only options for fixing the problem are to buy a new console, ship the console back to Microsoft for repair or to fix it yourself. In this article I am going to cover whether it is actually possible to fix an Xbox 360 yourself.

It's a familiar story all over the world. Someone buys an Xbox 360 and after a while of gaming it suddenly stops working. A strange red ring of lights appears on the front of the console and its "game over" so to speak. The disgruntled gamer takes the console back to the store and is told that they can either have it repaired by Microsoft, which can be a time consuming procedure, have the console repaired by another third party at their own cost or purchase a new 360. However, according to some there is another option - home repair.

It sounds crazy doesn't it, repairing such a hi-tech piece of equipment with no special training or expensive tools, in fact, it sounds impossible. According to some repair guides that are available online it is possible to fix an Xbox 360 at home. All you need to know for repairing the console and navigating its internal components is usually written in text format, some of the better quality guides also feature video. From the ones that I have read no special tools are required, most people would have the necessary kit in their garage toolboxes.

Generally, Xbox 360 repair guides are easy to understand and follow and usually have very good results. As great as this may seem, the news is not all good. Any tampering on the console by an unauthorized person will result in a voiding of the warranty which means that Microsoft would no longer be willing to repair the console themselves. If you aren't confident in your technical skills and you don't mind the possibility of waiting a long time for your console to be returned then it would be better to get it repaired by the professionals. However, if you're willing to accept the possible consequences then repairing your Xbox 360 at home is a good option.

To conclude, I honestly feel that it is possible to fix an Xbox 360 that is suffering from the now infamous red lights problem, at home. Using any of a number of Xbox 360 home repair guides it should possible for the average person to safely diagnose and repair the problem without too much hassle. Of course there are downsides to this course of action but in my opinion I feel the benefits outweigh the doubts.

James Philipson has been a keen gamer for over 15 years and has also worked in the electronics industry as a technician and product developer. Over the years he has repaired thousands of electronic devices and has designed a number of new products. He became interested in the technical aspects of the Xbox 360 after a number of his friends' consoles experienced hardware problems. He has also created a website all about Xbox 360 home repair which is regularly updated.

Clothes For Hip Babies And Celebrity Baby Update

Remember those first photos of Brangelina's baby Maddox? He was wearing a Black Sabbath tee - quite the rock'n'roll infant. Kingston Stefani has been papped in some seriously urban babywear, ditto the Beckham trio.

To clad your baby in similarly funky attire eschew the high street and embrace the internet. To help you in your mission (and because we love cool kids' clothes) we've done some internet shuftying and come up with these veritable gems:

Nippaz with Attitude What's it about: threads so hip you'll feel upstaged by your baby
Our favourite: Notorious B.I.B. Prices: 9.99 for a (seriously cool) bib. Nice stuff: check out the Anarchy In The Nursery gift pack which includes Love and Hate mittens.

Kit n Kin at Freddy Says What's it about: ethically produced clothing featuring hip photography. Our favourite: 'Bling girl' motif (think Mr T chains). Prices: 15.50 for a vest. Nice stuff: we're loving the fab packaging with swing tag and recycled boxes.

Stardust Kids What's it about: personalised tees and sleepsuits that go "one louder"
Our favourite: 'I Love Uncle Ray More Than Uncle Sid'. Prices: 16.50. Nice stuff: they also sell kids' electric guitars (with built-in amp and speakers).

Twisted Twee What's it about: "Cheerfully sardonic" designs which your mother-in-law will absolutely not find funny. Our favourite: 'Half pint' T-shirt (with matching Pint T-shirt for Dad). Prices: 15 for the tee. Nice stuff: Everything. The whole site is a tribute to cool. Check out the Racing Pantlets and the embroidered Sleepy Head pillowcases.

Finally keep a look out for how these famous mums and dads will be cladding their babes this summer, with this quick celebrity pregnancy update. Congratulations to Halle Berry who gave birth to a longed-for daughter on Sunday 17 March. Halle and partner Gabriel Aubry settled for the unusual name Nahla Ariela Aubry. Nahla is Arabic in origin and means drop of water.

Congratulations also to la Lopez and Marc Anthony on the birth of their twins Max and Emme on February 22nd. Cue the meeja scrum with The People coughing up $6m for the first pictures.

Minnie Driver announced her pregnancy on Jay Leno's chat show but refuses to say who's the daddy...

What's happened to Myleene Klass? She's shed a whopping four stone since the birth of Ava in August but appears to have all but lost her legendary I'm A Celebrity curves.

Nicole Richie and Christina Aguilera both gave birth to their first babies on January 11 - Nicole to Harlow and Christina to Max. Both women are in stunning shape but so pneumatic are the bosoms of Ms Aguilera that we can't help suspecting a cheeky enhancement.

Lisa Marie Presley has just announced she's four and a half months pregnant with twins by fourth husband Michael Lockwood. She has two children model Riley Keough, 18, and Benjamin Storm, 15, from her marriage to ex-husband Danny Keough.

And finally congrats to Mike Oldfield on the birth of baby number seven but Mr Fertile, aged 55, is the first to admit how exhausting he's finding it!

Charlie Newman writes on behalf of Baby Says Hello http://www.babysayshello.com/ Announce your baby's birth with designer cards and a beautiful birth announcement http://www.babysayshello.com/baby-announcements/ webpage to send to all your friends.

Royalty Free Stock Footage - A New Reality in Video Production

In the past, producing a video meant producers had to hire an entire production team, including a cameraman, gaffer, grip, director, sound man, talent, and other crew members. Then, the team had to be transported to the actual location. If shooting in another country was necessary, the producer had to either fly the entire team there or hire a local team. Either way, he or she faces a logistical nightmare.

After booking your crew, you are at the mercy of bad weather, or the possibility of your talent not turning up. Even worse, what if your client disapproves of the final result of the shoot?

The world of video production is a very different battlefield now. With the advancement of fiber optics and broadband technology, producers are literary shopping their video footage on the Internet.

Instead of assembling a team and going to the location to achieve the desired shot, stock footage providers of all genres, from all over the world, have instead presented their own footage catalogued and nicely sorted on a website, allowing the producer to select, view, purchase and download instantly without ever leaving his or her desk.

We are talking about Royalty Free Stock Footage library. Royalty free licensing is an agreement that allows buyers unlimited use of the footage in a wide variety of ways. There are no restriction as far as the number of projects, release locations, and time frame; they are all covered under a one-time licensing fee. The only restriction is resale, in whole or in part.

Royalty Free Stock Footage are usually categorized by different genres, e.g. animals, landscapes, people, business, food, sports, time lapse, technology, medical, landmarks, background, elements, visual effects and 3D animation just to name a few. They can further be divided into sub-categories, e.g. 3D animation can be sub-categorized into spinning globes, waving flags, ocean and water etc.

While the availability of Royalty Free Stock Footage on the Internet is exploding, it is far from being saturated because every project has unique needs. For example, an outdoor shot can have different lighting moods and environmental settings, weather conditions, color tones, camera angle and camera movements. Likewise for 3D animation, each animator may create, texture and render each scene differently.

In the past, there were only a handful of stock footage companies around. They typically charged a few thousand dollars per clip, and those were not even royalty free. Your licensing cost had to depend on how many times you intended to use the footage, and in how many countries or regions your footage will be broadcast or distributed.

Now, thanks to technology advancement, more people can afford to own high quality video cameras, desktop editing systems and animation software. With increased broadband speed, people across the world can now deliver their own Royalty Free Stock Footage online, via niche websites that offer to consolidate individual video into a huge mega stock footage library. This online stock footage library is easily browsable, offers a secure payment system, and also includes a digital download delivery back-end. Some videographers and animators even set up their own online stores selling their personal video or animation footage. As a result, cost is lowered exponentially.

Typically, Royalty Free Stock Footage prices can range from 10 to 50 dollars per clip, depending on video resolution, uniqueness and technical demands, or if the footage includes identifiable people. They are sometimes sold as a collection of 20-30 clips for as low as a few hundred dollars. Compared to hiring a production team, these affordable rates provide video producers with great purchasing power and incredibly vast choices.

Of course, with great power comes great responsibility. With so many stock video contributors, there is great diversity in levels of professionalism and skill. Video producers must decide on the quality of the shot, based on information and previews provided by the website, reputation of the website to properly screen footage before accepting them, and the reputation of the stock footage providers.

Eddie Quah is the founder of MotionCow, a website dedicated to providing high-quality royalty free animation & visual effects for 2D & 3D artists and video editors. Globes 360 and Flags in Motion are animated stock footage library collections that focus on animated 3D spinning globes and waving flag respectively. They are all available at http://www.motioncow.com

Get Animated with Gizmo

Ever dreamt of being an animation star yourself? Apparently a company called Gizmoz has made this possible in a simple way through a proprietry technology that is able to manipulate your photos to form a series of animated expressions. You could then create a series of voice messages that sync with these expressions to send to your friends and family as a form of unique digital communication. As an example, imagine an animated Christmas greeting card with you on a Santa sleigh dressed in Santa's costume and shouting 'Merry Christmas'.

Normally speaking, this has to be accomplished in a 3D software. It can be pretty time-consuming, as a 3D model of the person has to be created. This is a process that involves manipulating a mesh of wire frames to eventually form a shape that resembles the subject matter. The second step involves 'texturing' the 3D model, where a series of manipulated digital photographs and textures are mapped onto the 3D model. This technique is similar to that used by game companies in the development of games that involve photorealistic computer players - usually involving existing soccer stars, wrestlers, basketball players, etc.

Next involves rigging the character - where the 3D character has to be given a skeleton so that it can be manipulated to move. The final step is the animation - where it involves manipulating the 3D model to create a series of body and facial movements.

Now before you are thinking of Angelina Jolie in Beowulf, I need to burst your bubble because Gizmoz's technology is nowhere as sophisticated. The above process of creating a 3D model to the final step of animating it is the ONLY way at the moment to create a Beowulf Angelina Jolie.

Gizmoz is a non-technical solution for people who want to deliver a fun personalized message with themselves as the stars and limitations are inevitable as with most other 'non-technical' solutions.

- It is limited to animating just expressions at this time. This means you can't expect Gizmoz to animate your body parts.

- The scenes are limited to what Gizmoz provides as template backdrops at the moment. You cannot customize beyond what Gizmoz provides.

To be honest, Gizmoz is nothing more than just plain old novelty to me - novelty that will wear out once better technology or more interesting substitutes get launched.

Saying this - Gizmoz - along with its investors, has taken a bold step to enable and empower individuals to express themselves in more realistic and imaginative ways and this effort should be applauded. With mobile giant DoCoMo and venture caps like Benchmark Capital and Columbia Capital believing in and funding Gizmoz, it would be interesting to see whether Gizmoz is an ace or a drop in the sea.

You can read a news release about Gizmoz teaming up with AOL to deliver their services here.

This article was written by Aldric Chang - Founding Managing Director of Mediafreaks Pte Ltd and a creative businessman who dabbles in music composition and production, internet marketing, casual games production, animation production, cartoon production and character licensing. He's currently intent on growing his up-and-coming 3D animation studio into a behemoth entertainment enterprise.

3D Models For Use in Geological Modeling

Geological modeling serves the purpose of creating 3D models of sections of the earths crust. These 3D models are unique as they can be created with different types of simulations of rocks, even the types of cells within the rocks. 3D models allow seismologists to predict certain events within the crust of the earth from shifting plates to eroding areas of the crust, or new growth within certain areas.

The grid surfaces within the programs are created with diverse polygons representing different structures and types of surfaces. These geological models are created using polygonal modeling using a meshed shell to create a surface that has been triangulated for the specific area.

3D geological modeling incorporates many other aspects of the field, including; diagenesis, structural geology, paleoclimatology and sedimentology.

Oil and Gas industries use these models to determine how the ground will react when the drills are inserted. These models are used to plan for any disturbances that may occur, as well as any weak points within the crust that could cause difficulty. If an accident were to occur, the 3D model allows the engineers to determine a plan of action for a variety of outcomes that may occur.

3D geological models are also used to complete valuable calculations for use in geostatistics. Many times, geologists are unable to calculate what is within the rock or within the crust at certain areas and therefore it is important to have software that can calculate these variables. This data is not available on regular grids and therefore must be estimated in the most effective manner.

Many popular software systems have been developed to create these 3D geologic 3D models; Roxar, Paradigm and Jewelsuite are only a sample of the programs available. These powerful software systems are able to display and calculate parameters required for many professionals involved in Earth Sciences.

Point and Shoot Digital Camera Tips and Tricks

In the growing world of digital photography new cameras with various high-tech features and settings appear on the market every day. For lovers of fast, easy photography it's a virtual paradise -- if you can manage to sift through the many choices and find a digital camera that's right for you.

Most people with even a mild interest in digital photography are aware that SLR cameras are the cream of the crop. Digital SLR is a shortened version of the term digital single lens reflex, which means utilization of a mirror positioned behind the cameras lens to direct light toward the viewfinder as you're composing a photo. When the shutter is released, the mirror moves out of the way allowing light from the lens to travel to the sensor and black out the viewfinder for a moment. The viewfinder employs a prism that turns the image around and bounces it onto the screen where it can be seen by the photographer.

SLR's allow the photographer better and tighter control over the images that are produced in ways that a point and shoot digital camera cannot. With an SLR one is able to control shutter speed, utilize a wide variety of different lenses, enjoy an overall faster performance, and have access to great flexibility.

Unfortunately, the main disadvantage of digital SLR cameras is their price tag. With costs ranging anywhere from $300 all the way up to $2000 dollars it makes sense to compare all kinds of digital cameras carefully before making a purchase.

Most regular, working class people can't afford to spend so much money on such a luxury item, which leaves point and shoot digital cameras. For people looking to capture everyday shots of their children, pets, or vacations, point and shoot digital photography is the perfect choice. It's inexpensive, user friendly, and provides instant gratification.

As for people who want to take beautiful, artistic, perhaps even magazine quality photos but can't afford an expensive SLR camera, there are many digital photography tips for a point and shoot camera that can help capture amazing images.

Here are a few points that will help budding photographers with macro photography, action shots, and photography portraits: read your camera manual from cover to cover; practice and understand focus lock and exposure lock (a feature of most all point and shoot digital cameras); use your flash to fill the darkest shadows with appropriate light; and for action shots, utilize the focus lock/exposure lock to pre-focus and then pan with the action as it passes before you.

You can find much more information about these methods in many online digital photography venues as well as inside your user manual. Even better, there are many inexpensive online digital photography classes in which to learn and a few that are offered free of charge.

For amateurs like me, point and shoot digital photography can yield gorgeous images with a little practice time, patience, and a strong desire to experiment. For more about amateur photography and creative writing check out Pictures, Words, and Ordinary Life.

Photography Jobs That You Can Get Into

It is not true that there is no money in photography. For those who are truly gifted, fame and fortune is easily achieved. In fact, there are a number of photographers who have reached the top of their field. There are actually a number of jobs that a photographer can get into. Pictures and visuals are important in most media and talented lens men are very much in demand in the market especially now with the age of multimedia.

Below are just some of the areas where photographers can get into and believe it, one can earn big bucks in each!

Magazine and newspaper photographer

Although it is more lucrative to do freelance photography, it is best for photographers who are ,just starting out to first establish contacts and build a name through magazines and newspapers. This is also the best place to earn experience in photography as you will encounter different kinds as well as interact with different kinds of people.

Newspaper photography is harder and more spontaneous compared to magazine photography, which is primarily shot in locations. When working for newspapers, one must be able to develop an eye for photos that will capture the readers attention as well as tell a story with its images.

Advertising agency

Another area where a photographer can get into is to work for an advertising agency where they will be conceptualizing ads for campaigns. One can start as a photographer and then gradually climb up through the ranks. One can even become an art director or if there is talent in conceptualizing, even a supervisor for overall operations.

Fashion shoots

A photographer can also work in fashion shoots. With much experience, they can even conceptualize a shoot and be its overall director. Most fashion houses hire photographers when coming up with a new collection for the season.

Event Photographer

Events like concerts and special occasions like weddings and debuts will require photographers who will document the event. Pictures are actually a large part of the preparation for the event and is almost as essential as the food.

Freelance photographer

Although it will be harder for photographers that are just new in the field to establish a career as a freelance photographer, there are a number of markets where they can contribute their work. For instance, most international agencies like UNICEF hire photographers to document their various projects in far-flung areas. There are also some who are hired to contribute generic photographs that will be used in newsletters and brochures.
